I think they were going for the classic Genie story in a sci-fi guise, but now it's also become an allegory for GenAI. The doctor is a techbro - "just one more prompt, I know it'll work this time!" - the patient's dreams are the LLM, and the patient is @davidgerard trying desperately to explain why all this is a terrible idea.

Just finished War Of The Worlds (2005). It holds up surprisingly well. I'd not seen it in years, so thought I'd give it another go.
Still incredibly tense and dark throughout most of the runtime. However the unlikeable characters and the total non-ending certainly doesn't help.
Throughout I was thinking "wow this is shot well?! Who directed?" And of course it was #spielberg.
