The foundation is mostly complete, so adding new views and charts to my xOTAStats project is now much easier.

Montaña de la Atalaya (#SOTA EA8/TF-013) has a short, steep and sandy walk up to the activation zone. The views of Tenerife Norte - Ciudad de La Laguna Airport and the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna are worth the ascend to the otherwise rather unimpressive summit. Yesterday I climbed on top of the "Vorderer Langenberg" in the #Pfälzerwald (#Palatinate Forest) here in #Germany for a combined #SOTA #POTA #WWFF activation. I didn't expect much traffic around noon, but then ended up having a pile-up so high, I had to apply priorisation techniques to get everybody through 😵‍💫

I only stopped after 88 QSOs in 90 minutes because I was planning to activate more parks in France later that day.

#SOTA OE/TI-527 Unterberghorn is easily accessible by funicular. It’s about an hour’s walk from the top station to the summit (300 vertical meters). We took the walk down, but I can’t recommend that since it is mostly in the woods and the views are not that spectacular. The operating position on the summit is very comfortable and allows for a full #40m #EFHW to be erected. #HamRadio #SummitsOnTheAir #Amateurfunk #qrp #mtr3b #morsecode #hiking #mountains #tyrol #austria

After arriving at the hotel I thought it was time for a small activation: #SOTA DL/CG-110 Walmberg is the closest summit to our location. I’m currently testing a new #EFHW for #40m, #20m, #15m and #10m. On some #SOTA summits there is not enough space to put up a full 20 m long antenna. So I have designed this one which is like a linked #EFHW, but you’re able to remove the outer half and get an antenna of just about 10 m length (for the #20m and #10m bands). #HamRadio #SummitsOnTheAir #ParksOnTheAir #Amateurfunk #mtr3b #morsecode #hiking #mountains

The summit of #SOTA OK/LI-004 Jizera (#WWFF OKFF-0851, #POTA CZ-0010) does not offer very much space for an antenna and is usually pretty crowded on weekends. You are also not allowed to leave the trails to make use of the activation zone - the nature reserve needs to be protected. I am taking the next step in #ParksOnTheAir / #SummitsOnTheAir with a portable radio. It was a toss up between the IC705 and the #x6200 but for 1/2 the cost I will experiment and see if portable ops is in my wheel house. If it is, I might eventually get the 705. The SSB performance is underwhelming but the live FT8 decode is interesting. I've been picked up in Pasadena CA from Boise ID in 5w Morse code on the also-new-to-me GRA-7350T.

I will soon join the ranks of #HamRadio #operators with #portable #hfradio setups. I have a #x6200 on the way for the (hopefully) full summer season of #POTA #ParksOnTheAir and May be a few #SOTA #SummitsOnTheAir
