  1. We had a very nice visit from our MP James MacCleary. Sadly he was too old to sign up for the #SummerReadingChallenge

  2. Our regular reviewer Dorothy the Ringmer megalodon met the book golem to talk about...books, of course. And the #SummerReadingChallenge, which is still on - you can join at the library. Or you can sign up online: summerreadingchallenge.org.uk

Dorothy and the golem are still talking; we can't separate them.

  8. Book 4 of my summer reading pile. The Condor's Feather by Michael Webster.

It's a #travelogue, a genre I only occasionally enjoy as I often find it a bit clunky. But it is also a love story, a gorgeous elegy to #Birds, to #SouthAmerica, to the strength offered by a loving relationship + to the power of #nature to heal trauma. It certainly made me re-evaluate how I spend my time on earth.
A quiet recommendation in its genre, a book to savour.

  9. Astoundingly good book from @edyong209 - I really savoured this one. the title #AnImmenseWorld is not wrong - I wondered as I started it just how much you can write about how animals sense the world. It turns out you can write a lot and every single page glimmers with wonder, delight, new insights and knife sharp writing.

I enjoyed his previous book very much too, but this is book of the year if not book of the decade territory.
    Simply superb.

  10. Is there a better way to finish reading the amazing #LittleBrother than by candlelight from a friendly Ukrainian waiter on a sweltering European evening?

Still an essential and relevant read. What would we all do in Marcus' place?

    Time to go bookshopping tomorrow...

  11. Finished the first book (#SlaughterhouseFive) in my #SummerReadingChallenge in a day, it was so gripping. The 2nd book @pluralistic 's #LittleBrother is going the same way. It's absolutely brilliant and completely unputdownable...

But I won't be back home for another 2.5 weeks. Slightly regretting not bringing more of my #SummerReading with me on this trip. Should I slow down? Or just buy more #Books?

  12. Reading #Slaughterhouse5 on the beach in #Copenhagen, where we've taken refuge from the #heat is a bit of a mindbender, must be said...

Perhaps #Europe needs these kind of reminders though, our lives are maybe too comfortable?
