  1. New accessories have arrived for my #summerJob… some of my pre and post #ottawaBluesfest shifts are during set up and tear down so #safetyFirst! #fuschia

UPDATE: so any Canadian /Ontario #safetycompliance people here?
I want to add some subtle embellishments to my hard hat to personalize it...can I draw with permanent marker along the brim without causing any issues in the compliance department?

I'm thinking some lovely filigree lines in purple that are really only visible when looking down on it.

Maybe a crow sticker but still lots of room for the compliance stickers we get...?

  2. Opening night at #OttawaBluesfest and the inflatable Pegasus was offering comfortable seating near the Big chill entrance… and the #sunset and the #moon…so pretty

If you're a student in #Yonkers looking for a job to keep you occupied over the summer this year, the news isn't great.

A recent study placed the "City Of Hills" as one of the worst cities in the country to find #SummerWork.....

  4. When I was 18, I was an activities counselor at a provincial park. One day, I noticed one of the kids breaking out in measles. I immediately packed up a bunch of games and puzzles and walked him back to his campsite.

His mother was FURIOUS that I had ruined her vacation. She tried to have me fired for not keeping a sick, infectious child around all the other kids when she just wanted to stay in her trailer and day drink or something. Fortunately, my boss was on my side with this and I was praised for my quick thinking. I felt really bad for the kid who needed rest and medical attention. His mom didn't give a shit about him. #SummerJob #Measles #Outbreak #BadParents

  6. I just went for a walk in the Fredericton Botanic Gardens. Over thirty years ago, I helped build that place. I designed and installed the nature trails (no gas tools, all picks, axes, bucksaws, and shovels), and planted hundreds of trees. I was mentored by botanist Hal Hinds, and got my start as a botanic illustrator with him. Where there once was a field, there now is a forest. I did that. It feels good to see the fruits of my labour. How many people get to see a forest they planted? #forestry #BotanicGarden #trees #forest #WoodsWorker #SummerJob #RoadTrip #Fredericton

  7. Slow morning and that’s fine. Lovely cool start and the sun is shining! A bit of studio work ahead before the full switch to the #summerJob kicks in next week. Have a lovely Friday ya’ll!

  8. One of my first summer jobs was being an activities counsellor at a provincial park. One night, we were doing a Hallowe’en in the summer event, and I was reading Edgar Allan Poe stories aloud to kids. About halfway through a story, a supervisor came up to me and told me the stories were too complicated for children, so I had to simplify the language. This made me very unhappy, especially since I’d first read Poe as a little kid. #EdgarAllanPoe #SummerJob #bowdlerization

  9. One of my summer jobs as a young university student was helping develop a botanic garden. I illustrated signs & a pamphlet about eastern woodland trees and herbs. I thought I was a good artist, until the botanist I worked with told me my drawings were all wrong. Hal Hines taught me to look much more closely at the things I was drawing. He also introduced me to an herbarium with botanic specimens over 100 years old. I’m glad he took me under his wing. #SummerJob #Botany #BotanicIllustration
