Western Interior excessively rainy with some places having three times normal. Meanwhile, Cook Inlet area, after a (near) record wet July had way below normal totals. Southeast also drier than normal. @Climatologist49 @DeniseGutzmer

  13. Thunderstorm season is nearly over for another year across mainland Alaska. This season started off slow but ramped up just before summer solstice. Many wildfires started during this time but most were unable to become even moderately large fires. The mini-peak in mid-August was unusual but not unprecedented. Total strike count was lower than last year but typical since the current lightning detection network came online in 2012. @Climatologist49 @anisian
