Hen-do detour through Gerrard Street
I caught these two coming out of the crush on Gerrard Street, London, last summer. The blonde in the GANNI tee looks like she's mid-anecdote; her friend, in a white off-shoulder dress with a tiny veil pinned over a leopard headband, has the slightly stunned grin of someone three hours into a hen weekend and starting to enjoy it. London Chinatown is a brilliant place to wander in a bridal veil. The pavement is so packed nobody quite registers it, and you can stand under a lantern eating […]https://inphotos.org/2026/04/26/hen-do-detour-through-gerrard-street/

Saturday Data Dive: Mapping Calgary’s Thermal Fingerprint 🛰️📊
Spent some quality time with GEE, R and Landsat-8/9 data today.
I’ve just finished processing a Median Land Surface Temperature (LST) model for Calgary, covering the entire Summer of 2025. This isn't just a single-day snapshot—it’s a robust composite of many satellite scenes, filtered to show the true intra-urban thermal zones.
Quick Takeaways:
🔹 Surface temperature in some busines area and "heat traps" peaked at over 51.3°C.
🔹 The contrast between our "Cool Islands" and "Extreme Heat Zones" is striking.
🔹 This automated workflow in R allows for a granular look at urban climate resilience that standard reports often miss.I’m currently finalizing a full breakdown and a community-by-community analysis.
Stay tuned—the detailed article is coming soon!#Calgary #DataScience #UrbanHeatIsland #RemoteSensing #ClimateResilience #Landsat #RStats #GIS #Sustainability #GEE #EnvironmentalData #Summer2025 #YYC #GreennessOfCalgary #Alberta #Canada

Pretty good bet that the highest temperatures of 2025 have come and gone in and around Alaska. Widespread 90s in the Koyukuk and Kobuk valleys are extreme, but likely not as rare as the 80s on the western North Slope, even right to the coast. Meanwhile, some areas in Southcentral (Kenai) and Southeast (Sitka) had unusually low peak temperatures. @Climatologist49

Wildfire area burned in the Northwest Territories, Canada has nearly doubled in the past two weeks, with more than 1.33 million hectares (3.30 million acres) burned in 2025. Although wildfire as been minimal in the Yukon Territory and Alaska this month, the northern North American total area burned is now nearly twice the 1988 to 2024 median and on par with 2022 and 2024. @Climatologist49

Arctic temperatures for summer 2025 were much warmer than the 1991-2020 baseline average across NW Siberia, Svalbard and over the central Greenland ice sheet. Notably cooler than average in the Canadian Arctic Islands. ERA5 data courtesy @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social. #Arctic #Climate #Summer2025
