2006 U.S. 2xLP reissueBeen a long time since I’ve sat down and listened to Illinois from start to finish.
I posted the B-sides and rarities companion album The Avalanche, and it drove me to come back to this again.
This album was one of a handful that was a great source of comfort to my wife and I in 2007. We had moved into our very first apartment together in Woonsocket, R.I., and toiled in that joint for a year before hitting the road and moving to Van Isle.
Over that year, we listened to Illinois, Boxer by The National, Pete Yorn’s Nightcrawler, and a few other things on a loop.
We made that place our own, and we still remember that time (and the music we listened to) fondly.We were so young, and had no idea what was in store for us down the road.
Sufjan will always remind us of that time. We love this album dearly.

Both my wife and I are big fans of Sufjan. We lived in a rathole apartment in Woondocket, RI for a year before my wife told me she wanted to come back to the island, and one of the three albums we murdered that year was Illinoise.
So naturally, seeing this collection of extras and outtakes from that album peaked my interest and was a no-brainer.
My wife and eye don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things musically, so it’ll be nice to have something we can listen to together and enjoy.

This came up while assembling my Thanksgiving playlist (we're doing it late), and I flashed back to many years ago... Before France, before Colombia. When I left New York. I was putting together a playlist for my boyfriend, and then we broke up. I still finished the playlist, but it evolved, of course. And this, I think, was the first song. He had just started doing drag. And he was very good. As far as I know, he's still doing it.

Wow! I mean, "Chicago" off of Sufjan Stevens' amazing 2005 album "Illinois" is already an amazing track but this demo version?
I'm not worthy man! Not worthy!
There are just some demos of songs that for me, kinda have a superior rawness and immediacy that the final studio produced version just loses a bit of .
Death Cab has some demos that blow my mind and Stevens' "Mystery of Love" demo is tops but wow. Greatness!

I first heard of #SufjanStevens when he contributed songs to the soundtrack of Call Me By Your Name and I instantly liked his dreamy and laid-back style of music.
But if I were to pick one song of his I really like, then it would have to be the demo version of “Chicago”, famously used in the first season of #TheBear.
