*I think Eby's the current, problematic BC politician in Premier power role. The core problem is that #BCNDP haven't really respected #IndigenousRights for a long time. Their caucus became too whipped under Horgan & that's continued under Eby - who was groomed by the former neoliberal in charge of BC policies.*

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs says the NDP has a “colossal” leadership problem, and if it doesn’t move on from Premier David Eby, the party could be doomed for decades. “I think the problem is Premier Eby,” he said at a Friday morning news conference in Vancouver held by Indigenous leaders opposed to a proposed suspension of parts of the Declaration on the Rights of #IndigenousPeoples Act (DRIPA).

Phillip spoke alongside the #FirstNations Leadership Council, which is made up of members of the B.C. Assembly of First Nations, the First Nations Summit and the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs. The groups held a joint news conference in Vancouver on Friday (April 10), slamming the B.C. NDP government’s DRIPA suspension plan, a move the council had called a “unilateral betrayal” on Thursday. #DRIPA is a 2019 B.C. law that formally commits the province to aligning its laws with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ( #UNDRIP ), which affirms the right to #SelfDetermination for #Indigenous peoples worldwide.

My 2 Indigenous sister-friends, with me now, were both stalked by the drones in middle of old growth forest last week. Jess hid in thick bush for 2 hours, with her 2 dogs, until the drone flew off.

"Eby’s speech to convention delegates preceding the vote laid out his vision to make the province the “economic engine” of #Canada , to get “big things done” and to “build it together.” This included strong language supporting the labour movement, and followed a day of unions flexing their influence in convention debates. Dissenting voices from those seeking more #environmental protection were generally left on the losing side of debates, as the #NDP ’s focus on prioritizing the economy was clear in convention resolutions.

Despite some delegates calling the North Coast Transmission Line a “subsidy” for natural gas -fracking operations, a resolution to support it still passed. “I welcome the debate, I welcome the discussion,” Eby said. “It’s important to make sure we are addressing #climatechange and carbon #pollution. ” But overall, Eby received an enthusiastic reception and delegates were, for the most part, aligned with the government’s agenda."

They should sue immediately as should citizens for endangerment.

BTW, police can arrest people wearing masks (which protesters have long worn to combat pepper spray/tear gas). Obviously only a problem now as targeting a particular kind of protestor (or people shopping) and want to avoid crowd control and do their policing post-protest from a cozy cubicle.
