    And we have a working integration with Node-Red! The answer to my original question was C. I ditched ZHA, and installed and configured the Zigbee2Mqtt add-on.

    And for added convenience I'm using the node-red-contrib-zigbee2mqtt nodes to better interact with the Zigbee devices from within my #NodeRed flows.
