  1. Found in the wild today: a bike rack that isn't even bolted to the ground. It moved when I kicked it.

Edit: on the bright side, there is a free bike rack for the taking. Outside Winco Foods in Salem Oregon. Get it while it's available!

  2. @gwagner Sprawl is a very inefficient development pattern. From the NYT article:

"The county (Phoenix) uses some 2.2 billion gallons of water a day — more than twice as much as New York City, despite having half as many people."

  3. The street I live on doesn't have continuous #sidewalks (because #Vancouver can't afford nice things), it has #FreeParking on both sides, there's enough space for one car to pass and a bit of extra room. Similar to the picture.

People walk on the road. Some drivers slow down when passing, but most maintain the speed.

It's terrifying. I got used to it when biking, but sharing the road with vehicles when #walking is a whole new thing. What should I do, tAkE tHe LanE? Ridiculous.

  4. A pedestrian was car killed a few days ago in this area.

Police: “the man was not utilizing a crosswalk”
Journalists: “Honda SUV with significant damage to its hood”

The systematic safety approach tells us that mixing incompatible road functions, such as carrying through traffic and commercial activity, is unacceptable. The design of this place leads to it having the 2nd largest number of crashes in Maple Ridge.
