  1. I don’t know who needs to know this, but…

Weird power dynamics are the problems of others, not you, even if you manage to get caught up in them.

(It me. I need to hear it.)

  2. LOL one of our hams bragging about how you can talk to people in South Africa using DMR on "only milliwatts"... "THROUGH THE INTERNET" 🙄 #hamradio #subtooting

  3. Random comment: startups exist to make money for investors and founders (lots of money, preferably). Mostly, the investors. 100x preferable. Usually done via acquisition or IPO. While a company is venture funded, those first few years where the service is "free", it's in essence being 100% subsidized by the investors, who are expecting a return (i.e. enough for you to get hooked on the service that later on they can sell advertising against the user base/sell subscriptions/sell your data/whatever). When those investors are crypto-lords... #socialmedia #subtooting

  4. Alas, people mistaking differences of opinion for someone's mental health, trauma, or PTSD. You can NOT agree on how to run things without the other party being out of their mind. Be well folks! #subtooting

  5. Budapest, 1950. Undoubtedly the worst Hungarian leader of modern times was Mátyás Rákosi, seen here with some of his adoring supporters. A committed Stalinist, he ruled Hungary from 1945 to 1956, brooking no opposition and with an obscene cult of the personality. He established Hungary's only gulag/forced labour camp at Resck. A thoroughly unpleasant and dislikable man. He died in exile in Moscow.

  6. I sort of like it when others release updated versions of their packages and break my code. It always reminds me to be a better engineer and write more tests. Often, a few tests are totally sufficient to surface those breakages. #subtooting

  9. So what do we call it? I refuse to say subtoot on moral grounds. Obviously, if it's here, it's not a subtweet, so I have been using subpost but that seems wrong, too! Or, at least, it doesn't roll off the tongue.

    Halp!!1!

  14. I hope that certain organizations understand that negative feedback is still feedback, and don't react to the seemingly unanimous dislike and very valid criticisms about their inexplicable love for AI from the Fediverse by shutting down their Mastodon presence.
Because that, too, would be a statement.

  15. I've always been confused by white people who think that racialized people should be okay with their racism, as long as it's not aimed at their particular group. Like, I'm standing there, you're making comments about Indigenous people or Asian people, and you're surprised that I would call you out on it?

EVEN IF I didn't think there was something inherently problematic about what you just said, why would I be fool enough to think that you're not just talking about Black people the minute I'm not in the room?

  16. Well, fucking lovely.
I guess that's a protest in FAVOUR of systemic racism, then.

  17. CW: Subtoot auspol misogyny

As an old male Oz leftie, I'm really annoyed when I find these characteristics combined with rampant misogyny. #Subtooting? Sure am #auspol

  18. The plural of plugin is plugins, not plugin's. That's a general rule for plurals.

  19. @joannaholman Yes! I’ve definitely seen that too, though the account that I was #subtooting just now wasn’t doing it 😂 I do wonder how much propaganda you could sneak under the wire that way, once you had a following. I think a lot about the Russian #PsyOps we learned of around 2016, for instance.

  20. Love when I see a too-hot take here from someone I respect, and then when I go to call them on it in a reply I’m told it was deleted

    Is #subtooting a thing?

  22. People expecting folk not to talk about the arsehole website owner who ruined a place most of us used to hang out at don't seem to understand people at all....

    I came across this post.

People get really upset about spelling and #pronunciation but anyone who bothers to learn a little bit about #language will know there are no perfect rules, nor were there ever any perfect rules.

There are so many influences in the world, that is why things are pronounced differently at different times. But humans are also very capable of learning which way something is pronounced in a given circumstance.

    So there's no problem really.

Just skim read a loooooooong toot about choosing an instance. It says only choose instances that have clearly set out their codes of conduct.

Personally I find many codes of conduct off putting. While they say don't be shitty or discriminatory, the rules feel stifling, authoritarian. I'm sure those instances are fine if you join them, but for many their 'shopfront' is unappealing.

I'd prefer advice on better ways to express codes for an inclusive, non-hateful environment.
