Subspecies 4: Bloodstorm, for some time, was thought to be the end of the film series that really was Full Moon's best franchise. A few years back, a fifth film did arrive, but that may be for another time.

Bloodlust picks directly up from the end of Bloodstone and turns the second two sequels of the Subspecies series into one big sequel cut into two parts. This also signals what I call the end of the hey day of the series to no real fault of Full Moon's.

After the first Subspecies hit fairly big, Full Moon decided to go back to the well with Bloodstone: Subspecies II which turned the series more toward the vampire Radu and his obsession with both the titular bloodstone and the protagonist Michelle and more away from the other titular part, the actual little Subspecies guys.

The #Humboldt #marten (#Martes #caurina #humboldtensis) is a #subspecies of the #Pacificmarten that has been listed as #endangered by the US Fish and #WildlifeService since 2020. These endemic martens inhabit the redwood forest coastal regions of California and Oregon, where they form four populations. M. E. Martin et al. (2022) point oit that their #populationecology is still understudied, posing a challenge for #conservation measurements.

The #dockbug #Coreus #marginatus (#Coreidae) is distributed from Europe to Asia. In #CentralEurope, it undergoes one generation per year, with the adults spending their #winter #diapause in hidden places. #Sicklealfalfa #Medicago sativa L.subsp. #falcata is considered a #subspecies of lucerne, but is sometimes also seen as own #species of the M. sativa-#complex. It is native to #Eurasia and prefers deep, lime-rich #soils, here on Mount #Teufelsberg #Berlin with #Chorthippus cf.#mollis. K. Kaljund & V. Jaaska (2010) found a high genetic #diversity even in smaller #isolatedpopulations due to plant's biology, i.a.#autotetraploidy.

From the ashes of wildfires, the #snakes of Canada's north slither on. #NWT hosts Northernmost population of #GarterSnakes in #NorthAmerica.

After a long winter cold winter, #wildlife in the North is chomping at the bit to get out and enjoy the short summer. Those shaking off their winter topor range from bears to frogs and even snakes.

A #subspecies known as the #RedSidedGarter , the serpents have a number of adaptations and behaviours that make living in the North feasible. For one, they winter in large mounds, gathering together by the dozens. This helps offset their "cold blood" — which simply means they're body temperature is the same as the area around them. In the summer, they leave their traditional mounds to hunt, sometimes up to five kilometres away, then return to the same spot every winter.

June 2019 was Subspecies Month at B-Movie Enema. This atmospheric and moody gem comes to us from Full Moon Features and, of all their franchises, I think this is their best even if the little monsters who give their name to the series is kind of abandoned in the sequels.
