loaded up #Subnauticabelowzero after a few weeks of not playing & I forgot how annoying it is. much smaller world than the original & I have no idea how to advance the plot
I've talked to Margerit, visited both her bases and all the mapped Altera bases. Got all the vehicles, there's an ancient alien living in my head & I found the frozen infected leviathan today but can't tell what to do next.
Sub 1 was at least "you found the alien gun that's blocked your rescue, work out how to live here & dive deeper for the cure".

The atmosphere has lost none of its fascination. It’s a fantastic feeling to dive on planet 4546B in Below Zero. I recently reached my first major milestone: by building the Seatruck, I was able to significantly extend my range of action.

Discovered Subnautica Below Zero today with me son, we had loads of fun exploring this world and we will come back to it. I thought he would be more scared, but not at all. A Brute Shark scared both of us, but we had a good laugh about it.

Just finished Subnautica Below Zero.
A great addendum to a fun franchise.
Very fun survival and exploration with a neat story.
I found some tedium with regard to icy landscape traversal, but other than that I enjoyed the change up on underwater vehicles to a more modular approach.

Ogrywam sobie kolejny raz Subnauticę, pierwszą część, po tym jak przeszedłem Below Zero i... Trochę mi się zmienia spojrzenie na tą grę.
Tzn. dalej uważam, że podstawowa wersja jest zdecydowanie lepsza niż dodatek, ale dostrzegam też ile zmian wprowadzono na plus i ile na minus, oraz że wprowadzanie tych zmian to nie kwestia decyzji na zasadzie "zepsujmy to i kij, co nam zrobią?".
Wszystkie te zmiany to balansowanie na cienkim lodzie tak, żeby połączyć przystępność gry i dać graczom akceptowalny poziom trudności. W Below Zero postawiono na większą przystępność, przez co gra straciła charakter... horroru, survival horroru. Ale po powrocie do "podstawki" mam poczucie, że tam trochę za łatwo się kompletnie pogubić. Nie w sensie topograficznym, a w sensie tego, co trzeba robić.
Tak więc jedynka Subnauticy dalej należy do mojej topki gier wszech czasów, ale dziś nie polecałbym jej aż tak bezkrytycznie jak kiedyś.

I guess it's time for an #introduction ... I don't think I've ever written one on Mastodon before 😅
Hello world! I've created this account to chat and blog about video games. I only play games that run on Linux, which is why I ended up mostly buying stuff on the steam platform... even though I'm very conscious about data privacy issues and other problematic aspects.
My pronouns are she/her and I'm mostly here to connect with other FLINTA (or allies) about gaming. I'm not a pro at all, I started about 3 years ago and have discovered the survival genre for myself, especially combined with exploration. But I do enjoy other games as well.
Some of my favourites goto-cozy-games are #subnautica (can't wait for #subnautica2 !), #SubnauticaBelowZero , #raft, #valheim, currently also #Satisfactory and #PlanetCrafter (I'm an engineer IRL, sorry! 🙈)

built a Prawn. over what turned out to be a very narrow canyon leading to a cave system dropping below its crush depth. if i hadn't been very, very quick to switch on my seaglide, swim down after it, and go get in the robot, i'd be building another Prawn right about now.

got my first Seatruck and am building my first proper base just offshore from Delta/Koppa. there's no quartz here. this was an awful decision. too cautious (and under-prepped) to do more than briefly scout the bottom of the mineshaft at Koppa or the vent cave complex with the alien distress signal. this is definitely displacement activity (and a place to keep bottled water and fish jerky).

there's a much-appreciated and easily available handheld short-range version of the scanner room called the mineral detector, and in at least one early-game location (i've only been to the pod, the emergency supply cache, Delta, and very recently Koppa), 🟩 ion cubes show up as an option on it.
