Today was the final exam. Final indeed, because I PASSED! 🥺🥳🎉

If everything goes according to plan at city hall, I can pick up my license there on Wednesday, Feb 26th. And from that point onwards, I can take my white horse on the road anytime I wish.

I am:
- beyond thankful
- an emotional wreck right now

New #motorcycling lesson this morning from 11am until 1pm. Yep, the lack of daylight was 100% my Achilles heel.
De-li-cious ride today with some in-city stuff and then a nice dike ride alongside the river. No things of concern surfaced during those two hours.

We are so back! In 3 weeks I'll know if I'm worthy 🥰🏍️

Had a late lesson today, 6pm-7:40pm. Though I was well-rested and the conditions were OK (it was dark, 3 °C and slightly rainy, visibility was good) I wasn't in my element.

I think I'm not comfortable in the dark and it messes with my basics, like shoulder checks and keeping/creating distance. I really messed up in those departments a few times today.

Learning's not a linear process. Still: this is annoying.

I was out on two pretty wheels tonight for two hours from 4:30pm.

Fairly unfriendly conditions! 0 °C + fog + dark, about 500m of sight. Quite the eye-opener what such humid coldness does to focus, even with proper winter gear.
Now I know better how that affects me and what I need to pay extra attention to if I end up in those conditions again.

Not the easiest ride but overall I did okay and learned things :)

Had a riding lesson this afternoon, and it was so good for the soul once again. We focused on a lot of the slow manoeuvres to make sure that all looks decent.

Enjoyed a bunch of delicious twisty dike roads, resulting in the face below. Ugh, I love this so much 🥰

Took two more lessons over the past weeks to end the year nicely.

My eyes really are in a better spot lately. I'm riding much more by feeling, while keeping my gaze near the horizon when looking forward. This works great to improve my riding line and to automatically keep clear of the road markings. To me it seems the exam administrator was onto something with his remark.

Wednesday was my first time back on the road since the failed 🏍️ exam. As always: it was lovely to ride. Good to build up more experience in dark winter nights.
'Annoyingly' I did very well. Wish that important ride earlier was like this, hahaha.

One thing did pass a test: these heated gloves! My finger tips were still good after 2 hours in ~2 °C conditions. #nospon, can recommend.

Womp wommmmp. Failed the final exam this morning. Definitely was one of my better rides, but the person administering the exam failed me for riding over white road markings (pedestrian crossings / arrows) too often.

My instructor linked this to some hesitant road positioning which may have underlined this for the examinator.

It is what it is. Onwards to early next year. 😕

My original instructor agrees with the one from last weekend: yes, we're in a good place for the exam this Friday. 🥹

The rest of this week will likely feel simultaneously too slow and too fast. I can't wait, but I also can't wait for this to be over 😂

Back at it! I took 2 riding lessons this week, both in challenging urban territory. Picked up a number of good ideas re: safe space during unexpected actions from other road users. Some situations I handled a bit late but I know how to do better next time.

Another thing I need to improve is stopping on the optimal side of an intersection before turning left/right, so my turn is easier + others have space too.

New week, new AVD lesson under the belt. First time in a while that I went on the road together with my original instructor. He always picks really diverse routes, and this one was no different: through villages and small town centres, over curvy dike roads, through meadows, etc. Really fun, challenging at times, found some flaws but also biiiig improvements. Lessons were learned and joy was sparked 🥰

Me and my instructor have decided to see if switching to a later exam date (than Oct 21) is a good idea.

During today's lesson I wasn't as sharp as I should be, sticking with the other student too much at times (causing me to halt while crossing a bike lane and such). I also wasn't planning ahead enough during our highway ride back, causing me to have to brake hard once.
Probably a good move to take more time.

Took an AVD class this morning. I can be short: this one was great! The best AVD ride for me so far, easily. I'm feeling a lot of improvement in spatial awareness and the instructor didn't have to use the earpiece much. It has given me a good boost in confidence.

The only real remark was regarding freight trucks, I was sticking behind them a bit long on a few occasions. Good to keep that in mind for next time.

Had one of those 'car lessons on the side' today. And... it went quite well!

The **only time** during those two hours when the instructor had to correct me was when I got confused with picking the right lane after a direction.
Saw my signs, knew my speeds, took enough initiative to not appear hesitant to other road users.

Another weekend, another AVD class in the books. 🏍️

Sweet: much better sign awareness and crosswalk checking.

Less sweet: Made an ugly mistake at a multi-way traffic light (the round 🚦 lights + oncoming traffic on the opposite lane, iykyk) and I had a fast Audi in my blind spot later on the highway. I'll focus on those shoulder checks. And I was (too) conservative with speed sometimes, so I'll work on that too.

Interesting days behind me. Didn't just do a riding class this weekend, but also three lessons in the car to train traffic insight.

It has already been helpful to find some of my flaws and to address them. Still need to work more on my crosswalk checking & sign awareness but we're making tangible progress.

Also an excellent reminder that I don't want to drive a car, I don't like it at all 😂

As we're inching closer and closer to the final #motorcycling exam, I've started to collate a list of the machines I see out there for sale. For now it's just to inform my opinion, but it's handy to have some options to go check out in person once the license is hopefully there at the end of October.

AVD class today. Took many lovely local roads from Capelle to Oud Verlaat. Again no highway, but plenty of speed and fun.
Had the opportunity to be in the left lane next to a car at a traffic light and I properly pulled away in the way (read: at the speed) car drivers expect from us 🥰

I should improve cornering - I need to keep my eyes far ahead and I should adjust road position in blind corners.

Today I did another AVD class. No highway, more within-city-limits stuff, which went much better than pre-10/8.
I can work on road position next time, and I hope to be able to demonstrate good speed limit recognition -- I was riding behind another student today so sometimes I was keeping distance instead.

So. I've been back to the #riding school today for what I thought would be a car driving lesson. BOY WAS I WRONG ABOUT ALL OF THIS. :KEKW:

The idea is to do **both**, this Friday morning I get to do a regular AVD class on the motorcycle. (insert happy noises here)

But: the car instructor is off for a few weeks, so we won't do that part immediately.
What we did tonight instead was **elemental** to a likely better outcome of Friday's AVD class.

This was the entire group of our riding school participating in the exam, and we all passed. I can't exactly say the same of some other schools sending in students that day 🫣
