MIT neuroscientists have found striking evidence that language and logical reasoning are powered by separate systems in the brain. Even people with severe language impairments caused by stroke were able to solve challenging logic puzzles as well as people without those impairments, while brain scans showed that language-processing regions stayed largely quiet during reasoning tasks.

Well, decades of first aid training finally paid off*.
My uncle had a fall on Monday and I asked him if it was possibly related to a stroke as he was slurring his words on Sunday and Monday. (I'd just thought he was tired at the time)
He mentioned it to the doctors today and they concur. He's going for an MRI scan
My mother-in-law had two mild, undetected strokes, later picked up when she became quite unwell. The good news is my uncle's prognosis should be a bit better, with rapid intervention
* of course, I patched my dog's paw up once which was a very good use of first aid skills
