We were on our way to the village parks department fitness when we caught the beginning of TED Radio Hour episode, “Future You.”
We worked out a little and swam, being kind to our future selves by committing to exercise.
I worked my left leg hard!

One last thing: retail therapy.
I was going to NOT get sucked into Amazon’s Prime Days, but stuff I’ve been watching for months on sale.
Have all this free time for sewing but carpal tunnel tinglies triggered by handling fabric. Will try it with quilting gloves next.

I chucked a full laundry bag from 2nd floor to first floor, and from there to foyer (double railings on both sets of steps):
When I got home from inpatient rehab hospital, I slept on the family room couch for weeks (off foyer) because I wanted a second railing to 2nd floor

Another achievement unlocked: got my “lightweight” AFO orthosis to fit a pair of slip-on Merrill walking shoes with good tread. Going for a walk this afternoon to break them in and get used to them, avoiding blisters and abrasions.

Achievement unlocked: went downstairs to start a load of laundry, had been avoiding as there’s one handrail. Finally felt confident descending with cane braced to the right, rail gripped with (weaker) left hand.
Trained at PT months ago but chickened out before.

Ordered 2 different flexible AFO braces from Amazon. My custom brace is heavy, too bulky for most shoes except New Balance (boo). I was desperate to wear my Cadense shoes, and will need to wear winter boots too.
Sat on front porch for the unboxing.
See alt text for comparison.

On the days I don’t have physical therapy, I’m supposed to do my strength/balance exercises at home.
On those days, I’m a little like Cheffy. It’s hard to be motivated.

Health update: per the EMG yesterday, turns out the burning, tingling sensation in my hands is carpal tunnel, probably due to incorrectly adjusted Walker, cane and rollator height. Too much weight thru the wrists!
REALLY annoyed, could have been prevented!corrected in JUNE. #StrokeSurvivor

Yesterday in exciting #StrokeSurvivor news, I ran thru the sprinklers at day rehab.
Was practicing walking on uneven lawn with cane and physio when the sprinklers came on. I quickly led us to safety, drawing on a childhood gauging the spray of Rain-Birds and such.
We both got hit. 😹🌧️🌧️🌧️🌦️

Next challenge: tackle the basement stairs, which has one handrail on the left (weak) side. The laundry room and my training bike “Veda” is down there.

On way to day rehab; one more week of OT/PT almost done and dusted. And I get a solo ride on the township bus, always a marker of a good day.
Talked to my orthotic guy yesterday, can get my brace cut back to save weight/be flexible later when PT plays it.

Off I go on the township bus to day rehab. I am still improving so they want me to keep coming until I plateau.
Now climbing the bus steps instead of taking the lift. The driver helps get the walker up.
Cane practice at rehab today.

Crap, it’s raining. I use a walker currently, so getting down the driveway to the township shuttle bus will be interesting.
Hoping by winter that I’m walking better.

Miss Catty Lavelle was super lovey-dovey-dovey last night; I slept upstairs and she went into a head-bonky ecstatic cuddlefest. I had debated whether to stay downstairs or make the effort, so I guess that was my reward.

Today in #StrokeSurvivor news…
I made it to the friggin second floor so I can take a shower and sleep in my own friggin bed for the first time since 11MAY25.
The steps were easier than I thought, the transitions at the top of the first flight of 4 and second flight of 10 steps were a little dicey

Mischief managed: a girlfriend picked me up for lunch, dropped me off at #DayRehab - and we’ll set up a standing date for doing exercises at home via phone. We did that during COVID when I could walk 3-6 miles for an easy workout.
Now, I can do a few hundred yards max.

My occupational therapy task for today: assemble this tub/shower transfer bench so I can take a shower safely.
My occupational therapist recommended this one, was bored so I put it together. No tools, seems very solid. #strokesurvivor

Bringing big Borg energy to my #StrokeSurvivor journey today; Got my ankle/foot brace today. In a routine assessment this morning, was asked birthdate, location, and “who is the President of the United States?”
“That is a loaded question, I’d rather not say. But as you can see, I’m a #Resistor “

HE’S JUST LIKE ME FOR REAL 🤣🤣🤣
One of my crushes sent me this and it basically hit me in the damn soul and I started crying laughing and had to share it here.
If I don’t know you or trust you, I would rather do ANYTHING ELSE than acknowledge that you’ve just flirted with me, but believe me, I know, and believe me, I’m Fucking Panicking. Often for YEARS. OOOPS 🤣
I do really like this guy, though…
