  1. In addition to her #RootsTech presentation #OnePlaceStudies: Studying a Village, @Liz has one with a different #OnePlaceStudy focus: #StreetStudies.

Find out how Liz is researching the history of her street and its residents—lots of great ideas on how you can do the same for the street where you live, or one that your ancestors inhabited! familysearch.org/en/rootstech/

  2. #OnePlaceWednesday is here again! Use the hashtag to post, or see other contributors' posts—news, updates, links to resources or blog posts, questions, observations, or general chat—about #OnePlaceStudies in all their forms (including #HouseHistory and #StreetStudy projects).

  3. Another new member-registered #OnePlaceStudy is a #StreetStudy, of Northdown Close, #Ruislip, Middlesex—a living memory of the street where one-placer Christine Payne lived.

Join in with our mid-week social media chat #OnePlaceWednesday, using the hashtag to follow along or to contribute #OnePlaceStudy / #StreetStudy / #HouseHistory / #CemeteryStudy news, views, resources, questions, or general chat at any time during the day.

  6. #OnePlace10 ideas? How about Ten Things about your place? Ten favourite pictures / documents relating to your #OnePlaceStudy. The Top Ten occupations, or surnames, and how they changed over time. A #HouseHistory of number 10 in your #StreetStudy (or a street in your wider OPS). Ten interesting people from your place, or a family can follow for ten generations. If your study has been going for ten years or more, what has changed in that time? Or look ahead to what the next ten years might bring!

  7. A number of our member-registered #OnePlaceStudies are #HouseHistories. The sources and techniques used for a #HouseHistory can be applied to a #StreetStudy or a wider #OnePlaceStudy, although it may not be feasible for the individual houses in larger studies to be researched in the same depth. #OnePlaceWednesday

  8. A new blog post by our member Jo Hutchings on her #Aldbourne Archive website begins: "I joined up with the Society for One Place Studies back in April 2023. This is an excellent project, which has provided a (much needed!) focus to help pull together my research for Aldbourne." 😍

Join Jo on #OnePlaceWednesday as she makes ‘Labrador to Door Enquires’ for a #StreetStudy within her #OnePlaceStudy, and uncovers the story of Ramsbury Police Sergeant Frederick Bull...

  14. The latest blog post from the Loughborough Road (South #London) #OnePlaceStudy is a short history of the Old White Horse on the corner of Loughborough Road and Brixton Road.

The pub's entertainment connections, its role as a transport hub and meeting place, its managers and breweries, are all looked at.

  15. The British Association for #LocalHistory has launched this year's Local History Photographer of the Year competition.

The theme for 2023 is Up My Street - "we would like to see street images in your area, with a context of local history. These could include a street view, a building, some street furniture or a little detail on a wall or the pavement."

  16. Maybe, when looking at the different types of #OnePlaceStudies she could conduct, Barbie would choose a #StreetStudy - Doll Street in Machynlleth might be, erm, right up her street.

  17. Welcome to #OnePlaceWednesday, our mid-week, day-long Mastodon and Twitter (definitely not X) chat about #OnePlaceStudies!

Use the hashtag to share your #OnePlaceStudy / #StreetStudy / #HouseHistory news, links, pics, updates, questions and more, and to follow the conversation.

  18. #StreetStudies are #OnePlaceStudies focussing on streets, squares and the like, typically in larger towns and cities where a #OnePlaceStudy of the whole settlement is not feasible.

As with any OPS they combine #FamilyHistory and #LocalHistory, considering the place, its people, and their interlinked histories.

An example of a member-registered #StreetStudy is Eccles Old Road, #Salford OPS. Check out ecclesoldroad.uk

  20. A street of colourful houses. Did the people who lived in them lead colourful lives? A #HouseHistory or #StreetStudy project makes for an enjoyable and very manageable #OnePlaceStudy and could help you discover more about the place you live in, a place you love, or a place that was important to some of your ancestors.

    #OnePlaceStudies, where #FamilyHistory and #LocalHistory unite.
