It's from my friend, Jeff, whom I originally met off of Mastodon, back in 2022. We met in person in 2023 & exchanged plants🪴We've stayed friends over the years. We are working towards similar community building goals, in separate areas of the island. Ideally, would love to have a full food security, localized food systems 'spine', running West-East/South-North, across #VancouverIsland.
Jeff lives up island with his wife & kids. He also works in #nonprofit #FoodSecurity & #environmental #stewardship. He works for #Greenways #LandTrust in #CampbellRiver :

Re: Alberta
Like the rest of the country even in Alberta the divide is mostly between rural and urban folk, because the lifestyles are inherently different it is easy for The Lucky Pierre and his band of plucky bitcoin accelerationists-looking-to-incite to find pet peeves to exacerbate and point at one another.
For example Alberta will always (🤞 )have the orange island of Edmonton, and (increasingly anyway) Calgary.

I watched “Union Street” tonight, a documentary about Vancouver’s historically black neighborhood of Strathcona.
Rather than being focused on displacement, it features a number of great local makers.

Just before the lockdowns in 2020 I was walking through #Strathcona, a section of #Vancouver BC Canada (Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh) and they were digging up a patch of land in preparation for a gut-reno on one of the historic buildings there. These bottles were in the muck that had gone into the dumpster.
