Straight edge hardcore legendes BOLD komen samen met nieuwe garde bands CONTENTION en CLIQUE. BOLD was eind jaren '80 in New York samen met bands zoals Youth of Today en Side by Side verantwoordelijk voor de youth crew beweging: energieke melodieuze hardcore punk vol idealistische thema's (vaak straight edge en vegetarisch). De band kreeg een legendarische status (mede doordat leden verder ging in bands zoals Shelter, Quicksand en Into Another) en midden 2000s kwam de band af en toe weer bij elkaar en speelt heel af en toe shows.

It also brings the full story together in one place and looks at what hardcore can learn to prevent a repeat.

The article compiles accounts, timelines, and context that have been scattered for years.

Uncivilized Distro is taking submissions for a new zine, “Anarchy With an X”!. This zine project is all about radical sobriety, straight edge, temperance, and related abstinence cultures and lifestyles and their relationships with anarchy and abolition.

Is your sobriety related to a critique of capitalism and the state? What about Colonization, Civilization and Collectivism? Is it an affirmation of a collective good? Is it social or individualist? Vegan and Anti-speciesist? An interesting question to consider is the tension between voluntary abstinence found in anarchist sobriety and the Prohibitionist or Statist positions. Relatedly, the role of temperance in the Progressive and Modernizing / Urbanizing efforts of the 19th and 20th centuries is something to possibly explore.

Submissions due July 1, 2026.

Format:
In digest zine form: 9 or 10 point Times New Roman Font, two columns.
Maximum sizes:
-Essays and creative writing: 2,000 words
-Poems: 2 pages (please include notes on formatting)
-Letters: ~350 words
-Artwork: 2 continuous pages (or any amount of smaller pieces)
