  1. #StPaulMN - US citizen says ICE removed him from his Minnesota home in his underwear after warrantless search

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — "Federal immigration agents forced open a door and detained a U.S. citizen in his #Minnesota home at gunpoint without a warrant, then led him out onto the streets in his underwear in subfreezing conditions, according to his family and videos reviewed by The Associated Press.

"ChongLy 'Scott' Thao told the AP that his daughter-in-law woke him up from a nap Sunday afternoon and said that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were banging at the door of his residence in #StPaul. He told her not to open it. Masked agents then forced their way in and pointed guns at the family, yelling at them, Thao recalled.

" 'I was shaking,' he said. 'They didn’t show any warrant; they just broke down the door.'

"Amid a massive surge of federal agents into the #TwinCities, immigration authorities are facing backlash from residents and the local leaders for #warrantless arrests, aggressive clashes with #protestors and the fatal shooting of mother of three Renee Good.

" '#ICE is not doing what they say they’re doing,' St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, a Hmong American, said in a statement about Thao’s arrest. 'They’re not going after hardened criminals. They’re going after anyone and everyone in their path. It is unacceptable and un-American.' "

  3. I just moved (back) to #stpaulmn and the #twincities, and thought I'd read some books on the history of the area. Asked Claude for suggestions. It hallucinated some results and I asked it be more careful....and it showed a sort of self-awareness:

"Rather than risk providing more inaccurate titles, I'd strongly recommend checking with:

    The Minnesota History Center library
    Ramsey County Historical Society
Saint Paul Public Library's local history collection

These institutions will have authoritative bibliographies and can point you to the most reliable scholarly works on Saint Paul's history..."

Actually, this seems to jive a bit with @tao 's recent post on AI and "failure modes". Here, after a bit of prompting, Claude did admit a sort of failure.

  5. Hey St. Paul, my friend who lives near Grand in the Rondo neighborhood in St. Paul has a 17 year old son who is looking for his first part-time job. It could be literally anything. He has no work experience yet. He does not have a car, but can bus/walk. He's been filling in applications with all the big retailers, etc. but no call backs yet. Any leads?

  6. Any #MNastodon or #minnesota folks, anyone have information about a #veterans march at the state capital this weekend in #stpaulmn St. Paul? I can find lot’s about the one in Washington but I can’t get there for that one.

  8. Catch up #BikeTooter part 2. Had to run errand in #minneapolis #MNastodon today so did a “Minnie” ride around the city lakes. Coasted past #bdemakaska (Bde Maka Ska, formerly Lake Calhoun), Lake Harriet (1883!), passed Minnehaha falls (big rabbits in the park these days), crossed the the #mississippiriver to #stpaulmn and then back via the #Greenway. Stopped several times for well earned snacks and #coffeeonabike #twincities @TwinCitiesGeek

  10. #biketooter #MNstodon #cycling #cyclinglife Day 7+2 Who ever heard of Pot roast omelette? Merchants Cafe is in an old bank, the kitchen is in the vault! Powered up for the days ride. Passed through White Bear Lake and took a chance I wouldn't get a ticket for unregistered trailer. Passed #publicart on Gateway Trail. I'll make a separate post for more pictures. Passed the #Minnesota state capitol on the way up to Cathedral Hill in #stpaulmn. Finished my ride with #coffee on a bike /2 of 2

  17. I love the occasional quotes I find in the sidewalks as I’m strolling the neighborhood.

  19. #cycling #BikeTooter #bicycles Kind of a new take on the bike lean pictures. In the #mississippiriver in #stpaul #stpaulmn found this strange river created version of a delivery bike. And then the requisite bike leaning with Lowertown St. Paul in the background.
