Looking Out at Stourhead
A day trip to National Trust, Stourhead, in Wiltshire, England. The iconic landscape view is the one everyone takes, but is no less fine for all that.
It was a chilly day with a strong northerly wind, although for the most part the woodland valley shielded us from the worst of it. Nevertheless, it seemed to be a day of looking out from within…
The windows of the gothic cottage are indeed bent inward, there is no distortion here other than by design, or at least circumstance.
The gardens are filled with grottos, which were popular at the time and were often presented with hired “druids” who lived within them for the season. Here is a vent into which the local landscape has moved. A garden within the garden.
From the same grotto, a view across the main lake to the Palladian Bridge, built in 1762.
Still within, looking out, but now within the tree and gazing at the sky through the branches…
Finally, looking inwards into our own subconscious and the drive to find faces within. the landscape! I’ve put the original beech tree shot below, because it’s beautiful in its own right, but what do you see in this mirrored version?!

As for chargers not at home, the usual ones here - 50kW - would do an essentially complete charge of my ID.3 - 58kWh -in one hour.More usually it is a 120kW+ charger and I need 10-30kWh. I get time for a pee and to get a cup of coffee. A discharge -charge cycle to go with the battery.
If I'm at #Stourhead #NT for lunch I use the slower charger. The very slowest would let me walk around the lake, which is lovely.

@nigelpstanley Today, on the way to elsewhere, I paused at Stourhead, where there is also a famous bridge, lake, and follies.
It was too damn hot to walk down the hill and photograph them.
A pity.

Stopped at #Stourhead for tea and a peep at the lake.
There are, by the way, some fast #chargers for #BEV s in the car park now, new enough they are not yet in the #NationalTrust list of them.That's encouragement to us to visit a few more times.

#Stourhead is a #NationalTrust property in #Wiltshire
It's particularly known for its grounds - designed by Henry Hoare II and laid out between 1741 and 1780 in a classical 18th-century design set around a large lake, achieved by damming a small stream.Instagrammable before its time. This is probably the most famous view captured on a rainy overcast day in August.
