Diagnosis confirmed: The outside light should not contain this much water.
Workaround: Tape off the switch to it, since there are many other things on the "external lights" circuit including the downstairs toilet light and @hag's upstairs bedroom light. But not the external porch lights at the front of the house. The joys of a home formerly owned by a bodge-it brickie.
Long term repair: Replace the gutter and downpipe ripped off by #StormDebi to stop water running down the brickwork into the light.

Whilst #StormDebi may have passed, the next area of low pressure is on the way. The position of the jet stream will be crucial in determining the exact track and intensity, as Alex Deakin explains in this week's Deep Dive

The most impressive graph of last nights #StormDebi, in my opinion, is this tide graph. In #Galway Bay storm hit at the exact time the tide was highest. Here you can see the tides, all look normal except for the one last nigh. This “pointed tip” is the result of the storm bringing more water inshore.
And the wave power is just insane. The amount of energy the storm carries is, just wow…

The very strong winds across northern England will start to abate this evening as #StormDebi pulls away into the North Sea
Staying windy in many areas though with showers or longer spells of rain, albeit with some clear periods, especially in the south

In Claddagh, #Galway, we are witnessing a unique evolutionary event: #StormDebi has prompted the evolution of boats. Once quiet marine creatures, they are rapidly evolving to walk on land and starting to leave the ocean.
In the natural history of the world, this has only happened once before, 430 million years ago.
Please keep your distance and do not disturb boats if you encounter them on land!

On the OS maps here you see features marked 'bield'. They are usually Y shaped dry stone walls, built to provide shelter for sheep from any wind direction.
The one beside the house is T-shaped because it's simply a remnant of dry stone walls that made two small in-bye fields into which the back door of the byre opened. They helped the shepherd manage the animals on the hill.
When the house stopped being a working house the walls were removed, the fields opened up for grazing. #StormDebi

So clearly what’s happened is that last night Storm Debi was so rough that the wind lifted up Ireland Wizard-of-Oz-style and then dropped us into an alternative world where David Cameron was still a thing. #DavidCameron #Cameron #WereNotInKansasAnymore #StormDebi 🌪️💨 🏠
