The Cavan Town Christmas market had to be cancelled when #StormDarragh passed thru Ireland a couple of weeks ago. The organisers reimagined and rearranged it for evening time this week inside and outside around the Town Hall, and it was terrific. And so one's dinner this evening was yummy bao buns followed by churros, eaten al fresco listening to great live music. Delicious. Thanks everyone.

If you're looking for a good cause and you'd like a little bit of donation to go a long way, our local childcare nursery got damaged in the recent storms.
They're only crowdfunding for £500 and they've got £100 already. It would make a big difference to many small kids and their parents in #Machynlleth.

Art Advent Calendar Day 12
While I was without internet for five days on foot of Storm Darragh and couldn't do my normal "bread & butter" job, I made a bunch of decorative world maps in Photoshop. This is my favourite.
The whole collection is here:

We're sad to announce that around 8 trees were lost in Storm Darragh. This number could have been much higher if it wasn’t for our incredible Tree Gang.
The fallen trees and branches won’t go to waste - some will be mulched, while others will be carved into small products 💚

Managed to get a message out on solarcene.community that the battery was low, we've had another prolonged period of cloud including #StormDarragh and are often barely generating more then 60Wh a day. Battery got critically low yesterday and so the whole system shutdown.
I've managed to get a little bit online (network switch and the "dietpi" which manages the web requests including the blog https://blog.solarcene.community/ and custom 50x errors) and we are drawing 3W. Hopefully we will get a little bit of sun today though estimates are still low.
Solarcene.community will be off for the next 24hrs and perhaps even 48hrs and then I'll switch to it being online for 4hrs a day at least until the battery is in a better position.
Of course those who use solarcene won't necessarily get this message as it's offline 😁

„Thousands of people are still without power three days after the storm hit.“
"We're eating cold food as well because we don't have gas and we've lost all the food in our fridge and our freezer.“
"It's like being back in the war."
„People will die in storm power cuts, councillor says“

It's surprising how much the two cages containing this year's #leaves have begun to drop. Over a foot in a week! Must mean we're heading for a good load of #compost
#StormDarragh has also brought down loads of #twigs and small #treebranches that need to be cleared

If it were a hurricane that would be a Cat 1, and almost a Cat 2.
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutsshws.phpI mean, 93 mph doesn't even fit on the Beaufort scale.
https://www.weather.gov/mfl/beaufortBut they still call #StormDarragh a "storm".

"#StormDarragh brought gusts of 93mph to some parts of the #UK on Saturday as millions of people were warned to stay indoors. The powerful winds led to hundreds of thousands of people left without power, while transport services, including trains and flights, were impacted.
Ms Pinchbeck warned adaptations to homes and communities were needed immediately “regardless of what you think we should do in terms of reducing emissions”. "

@hanktank61 My neighbourhood was flooded during #StormBert I had flooding in studio and garages and a little underfloor in the house, my neighbours were worse hit and most have had to move out. No clean up done by Insurance company yet, so all the debris that I had managed to get out was blown around by #stormDarragh. It's raining again in South Northamptonshire. Sigh.

⛈️There's been alot of power cuts with #StormDarragh
🌪️If you are vulnerable, have a chronic illness you can register with The Priority Services Register in case of utilities service disruption

Made it back to #Manchesetr, left at 1145 and almost 7 hours later...
Pretty sure there is a quicker way 🤔
Might have something to do with #stormdarraghThanks to GWR & Avanti trains for accepting other train tickets but they could have declassifed the over filled trains, which still had reservations active.

So that 'spindly wee tree' that just missed the house in #StormDarragh was NINETEEN METRES tall. And while it wasn't big enough to make a sawlog, nineteen metres of even a spindly tree makes a decent pile of firewood (this isn't even all of it: bad light stopped play)
-
@quixote To be fair, they aren't hurricanes unless the sustained windspeed exceeds 74mph -- which #StormDarragh didn't, at least here, although it gusted higher.
Also to be fair, there is quite a strong venturi effect over this hilltop, which accelerates the wind just here above what you'd get in the open sea, for example.
But we have had storms in the past when the sustained wind speed has exceeded 74 mph, and they haven't been officially described as hurricanes either.
