RT by @EU_Partnerships: On Monday, 29 June, Virunga officially opened the first of six screening stations planned for Ituri and North Kivu, as part of the response to the Ebola epidemic, working alongside health authorities and partners on the ground. The station is located in Zunguluka, Ituri, the epicentre of the outbreak. Staff have been recruited, trained, and equipped to carry out temperature checks, promote handwashing, raise awareness, and report suspected cases. The virus is relentlessly evolving, getting further and further away as an antigen (how our immune system “sees” the virus) from the strains of virus in the early years of the pandemic... JN.1 is further away from the infamous Omicron BA.1 than BA.1 is from the major variants of 2020 and 2021 (Wuhan-ancestral, D614G, Alpha, Delta, Beta). KP.3 and KP.3.1.1 (currently dominant/rising) are even further away. The virus will not stop here, despite our desire to will it way. It will continue to find new ways to infect and reinfect us, under selection pressure from our prior immunity (be it infections, vaccinations, or combinations). We may also see another “Omicron-like event” in the times ahead, with a profoundly altered virus spike, tens of new mutations, as seen with BA.1 and BA.2.86 (the latter eventually led to JN.1)

Friendly reminder: vaccinations don’t *cause* bad things. They help prevent them! And not just for individuals—for a community!
So, I got my RSV vaccination today, two weeks after getting both COVID and Flu shots. (Already up-to-date against Shingles and Pneumonia.)
And yes, I’ll *still* wear an N95 mask everywhere I go when out in public!
To be safe, yes. But it’s also a way be loving, kind and compassionate to others.
