  1. Capitolium from the ground. (The main temple in a Roman city, dedicated to Jupiter, Juno & Minerva)

  2. I'm doing some Medieval. This doesn't happen very often so pay attention :)

In York, along one of the popular street of shops, you'll find a little door between two shop which opens to a narrow alley, which takes you to small courtyard and the remains of a 12th century house.

Called the Norman House, it's claimed as the oldest house in York. You can see where a cupboard, a window arch and where the floor was (under the window). The lower section being a basement/cellar.

  3. Harlech Castle rises dramatically above the town of Harlech in Wales, its imposing #StoneWalls and twin-towered gatehouse dominating the landscape. Built in the late 13th century by Edward I, the fortress is a prime example of #MedievalFortress design and remains a striking piece of #HistoricArchitecture. Visitors can explore the #CastleRuins while enjoying sweeping views over Cardigan Bay and the rugged Snowdonia mountains. Its #ScenicHeritage setting and well-preserved battlements make it a popular stop for history enthusiasts and travellers alike.

This could be an opening to a cave of wonders!

But the opening was only about six inches long.

  7. Silent history standing against time. The rugged ruins of Hampton.

  8. Rolling green lawns slope gently toward a narrow stream bordered by wildflowers, creating a peaceful spot perfect for #CountrysideViews and #RiverSide walks. Mature trees and a mix of stone walls give the landscape a timeless rural charm characteristic of the Alnwick countryside in northern England. The area is known for its scenic beauty, attracting nature lovers with opportunities for #NaturePhotography and quiet exploration. Nearby historic estates and National Trust properties enhance the appeal of this #ScenicLandscape framed by traditional #StoneWalls.

  10. #BirthdayWork #Fathers #Sons #Stonewalls #Steps #Repurpose #Reuse

My son did this work for me today, for my birthday last month. The stairs are repurposed from my sisters house.

The stones were our walkway for over 30 years, and came from my dad's farm when he was clearing stone walls to enlarge his fields. The crushed stone was leftover from my son's friends project for HIS father.

Good, solid work and our backs are aching tonight...I only need a few bags of pea stones to fill in, and I have dozens of smaller stones to set, if I want. (I can lift THOSE myself!)

No more stepping though mud/water halfway along the walkway.

  11. Castell Caerdydd (Cardiff Castle) is in the centre of Cardiff As you can see.

It's another Norman keep (I think the stone version is from the 12th century), built on the site of a Roman fort. Disruptive locals?
It's a motte & bailey castle (this is obvious when the trees aren't in the way) with a shell keep. Basically, it's a tower at the front with a round wall behind.

  12. Chepstow Castle was a Norman castle (you know, built to keep the Welsh out, or in). It's one of the castles of the Welsh Marches and one of the oldest Britain. Started in 1067. I think the Great Tower here is the oldest part of the existing structure.

  13. Cilgerran Castle, near Cardigan. The version was built in the early 13th century for Willliam Marshal, son of William Marshal. It's two towers, one for living and one for defence.

  14. I have been away so long.
Taking more photos, then laptop had to go to laptop hospital for a couple weeks and then away emotionally.

So, let's get back into this. Welsh Castles anyone? (Cestyll Cymru?)

#Cardigan Castle is mostly (13th C I think) walls and a Georgian house. It's a strong contender for Least Interesting Castle I've Visited.

  15. It’s difficult to TOP West Cork

When the weather is as nice as it is now, there’s nowhere like West Cork. Rolling hills and beautiful countryside, trees heavy with leaves and flowers in bloom, friendly people, and loads of things to do.

One way is Bantry, Ballydehob is the other way. We were headed to Ballydehob when I stopped for a few quick photos.
