🎩 Ah, yes, because nothing screams cutting-edge AI like dusting off a '70s #minicomputer and feeding it paper tape. 💾 It's as if someone thought, "Why build a rocket when we can reinvent the wheel with stone tools?" 🚀🔨

I've been working diligently on a #retrocomputing project which just soft-launched. You may shake your head, "Not another retro blog!" but I promise, this one's a little different; in-depth, hands-on examinations of the productivity software of the 8/16-bit era. It's called "Stone Tools"

We’re live! 🪨🛠️ Stone Tools has soft-launched, with the first proper post coming later this week. If you think retro-computing means more than just games, you’re in the right place. Hands-on, in-depth examinations of the productivity software from the retro "golden age" (1977-1995)

The bone, antler and ivory artefacts from the #Magdalenian sites of Gönnersdorf and Andernach-Martinsberg (Germany) are being re-examined by use wear analysis.
This provides new insights into manufacturing techniques, usage, repairs and reuse.
Research into finds made from organic materials has long been somewhat overshadowed by #stonetools , although they provide valuable information about the #behaviour and everyday life of people in the #Palaeolithic.

Who butchered this ancient hippo?
#Archaeologists in Kenya have unearthed dozens of #StoneTools scattered around the butchered bones of ancient #hippopotamus-like creatures. The site dates to between 2.6 and 3 million years ago, and pushes back the known start of large-animal butchering by early human relatives by at least 600,000 years. The tools are the earliest known example — by around 700,000 years — of #Oldowan tools, which became widespread across #Africa cont..
