April 24th was set as Confederate Memorial Day in Georgia in 1866. Since then, the date has marked a way for racists to display their hatred.
The landmark of Stone Mountain outside Atlanta has also served as a crucial nationwide symbol for racists. In 1970, the natural beauty of this granite formation was defaced by a carving of Confederate generals designed to serve as a rebuke to the Black Power and Civil Rights movements of the 1960s.
We have documented so much racist symbolism and activism around Stone Mountain since our formation. On April 26th, 2026, the Sons of Confederate Veterans will again hold their annual participation trophy circlejerk. They will again proclaim "Heritage not Hate," although very few people believe that anymore (stay tuned for a research post soon on the SCV's Nazi and white supremacist overlap). The Georgia SCV's keynote speaker on Saturday is John Weaver. As well as being heavily involved with neo-Confederate circles, Weaver has a long history with racist groups such as the Council of Conservative Citizens.
The SCV have the support of state legislators and all the protection of our modern police state. And we (as in the people of Georgia) are still going to sandblast Stone Mountain. If not this year, eventually. So to the SCV: enjoy your carving while you can, losers!

Last month, members of the Aryan Freedom Network (AFN)--a militant neo-Nazi organization--held a small "hiking & campout" event at Stone Mountain. An image posted to Telegram shows just three Nazis posing with an AFN flag. (A fourth presumably took the picture.)
As we have stressed before: the State of Georgia purchased Stone Mountain Park and completed the Confederate carvings on its mountain face as a show of opposition to Civil Rights. The site has an earlier history as the birthplace of the modern Ku Klux Klan.
As long as the racist carvings remain, the Park will continue to attract organized white supremacists. This obviously creates danger for the surrounding community, especially residents who simply enjoy the Park as a pleasant hike or place to exercise.

The Stone Mountain Action Coalition is rightly calling for Stone Mountain Park to cancel the upcoming April 29 "Confederate Memorial Day" event:

The SCV's Georgia spokesman is Martin O'Toole, a leader of the white nationalist Charles Martel Society who we have written about previously.
