The #StonedApeTheory doesn't make sense in that evolution doesn't lead to the passing on of "nurtured" changes. Mushrooms do seem to cause the growth of brain cells, but those changes won't get passed on.
Perhaps though that as animals are more instinct-based, the random mutation that made brains more susceptible to modification by (and impressed by) the mushroom experience, also made those creatures better able to survive and pass on their genes. We thus became the most adaptive animal. Maybe.
