St. Lucia? I was just there. Will have to dig.
I know fuel prices are high ($16 US/gallon)...

Just returned from #stlucia
A view from the beach across from the Charles airport after I checked in.
The sea was calm, the sky was involved in heavy negotiations.
Wonderful fellow travelers met. And a few fellow explorers.

A view from St Lucia for #SchiffSamstag today. This was evening at the end of a hot day on the Caribbean island, about to depart aboard Grand Princess but waiting for Celebrity Reflection to head out to sea first.

Walcott's epic poetic work is at once a refiguring of Homer and the colonial history of St. Lucia, of the indigenous everywhere, of the myths which mark poet and people. An extraordinary layering of all.

Our view for lunch today looking across to The Pitons (well, one of them), the famous volcanic plug landmarks of St Lucia. We're docked at Castries but headed south to Soufrière for some island viewpoints, a fishing village stop, botanical gardens (in this heat? Are we mad?), sulfur springs, then some local food and drink. Yep, still stupidly hot.

Walcott's epic poem of St. Lucia, but also of postcolonial culture, Homeric epics, the Revolutionary War, American Western expansion, language and art, aging, tourist economies, and a host of other layers is both poem and dream-state, compelling story and unnerving memory.

Rolling Man track from the new St. Lucia album has a distinct Daisy Jones & The Six vibe. Which is obviously a good thing.

Martinique, as seen from the north shore of St. Lucia.
This was from the last pre-pandemic trip my wife and I took, a vacation in St. Lucia with my folks. How little we all knew of the changed world that would greet us when we flew home.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 13
On the day where St. Lucia is traditionally celebrated in my native #Sweden, I'll share this painting of delicious St. Lucia saffron buns I painted last year, traditionally baked for December 13th and the "Festival of Light".
Let me tell you, these are SO tasty. In fact, I need to bake some before Christmas!
