On this day in 1932, the US and Canada signed a treaty to develop St Lawrence Seaway. That was just the beginning of cooperation between the two governments, and after a little blackmail by Canada, the full seaway opened in 1959. The system of locks, canals, and channels lowers ships by 170m over the entire 600 km length, and opens the Great Lakes to international shipping routes.#CanadaIsAwesome ##StLawrenceSeaway
