Today the parade rolls through both the cities I call home. And of all the enemies I've managed to survive, bigots, bureaucrats, social expectations, and my own parents, the one thing that nearly keeps me away is... my foot.
A gym injury. Really? That's the villain we went with?
Never mind.
If I have to hobble, I'll hobble. If I have to limp, I'll limp. You'd have to do a lot more than annoy one rebellious little foot to keep me away from Pride.
After all, society couldn't crush the queer out of me.
My parents couldn't crush the queer out of me.
And our community did the exact opposite: it gave me the courage to become myself.Queer.
Enby.
Proud.
Still standing. Mostly.So if you see someone in platform Mary Janes, rainbow gear, purple socks and stuff, and an expression that says, "Yes, this hurts. No, I'm not leaving," come and say hello.

In the quiet of the night, I grieve for the girl I was supposed to be. I ache for the simplicity of childhood; for the luxury of being hungry only for food, not for safety; for the freedom to laugh without guilt; and for the right to dream without the crushing weight of tomorrow. I am a child who has lived a lifetime of genocide and has yet to survive it. 😭
My childhood was stolen, not by time, but by a genocide that no child should ever have to witness. My heart is full of love for my family, but it is also heavy with a silence that asks: How much can one heart hold before it breaks? ❤️🩹
I am not asking for pity. I am asking to be seen. I am asking you to remember that I am a soul longing for the simple human right to live, to pursue my dreams, and to exist without the constant fear of tomorrow.

Between the ruins of memory and the ashes of the present, I write these words—not merely as a student waiting for a grade, but as a soul desperately clinging to a fraying thread of life amidst an unrelenting storm. 🌪️💔
I remember those mornings so vividly. They began with the aroma of coffee in our home and my mother’s gentle voice: "Wake up, my little one, your day awaits." I would organize my notebooks with care, arrange the colorful pens that painted my dreams on paper, and carry a backpack filled with nothing but textbooks and a future clearly mapped out. I would walk the streets, breathing normal air, heading to school with a heart full of ambition—no fear, no looking back, and no dread that every goodbye might be the last. 🏫✨🕯️
Today, my morning begins with the frantic rhythm of a heart racing in terror—fearing a new displacement, the hunger gnawing at what’s left of us, or the shelling that erases the very details of our existence. 🏚️💣 My school, once a sanctuary for knowledge, is now a tattered tent sheltering hundreds of displaced people. There are no "exam halls" anymore, only cramped corners where we hide from death to scribble words that mirror the fragility of our reality. ⛺🥀
I have no books, no luxury of revision. I only have a few worn-out pages, yellowed like our days, their edges torn just like our dreams. As I sit to write, my hand does not tremble from the rigor of the questions, but from the brutality of the scene. Behind every exam paper lies a child searching for safety, a mother scouring for a loaf of bread, and a father wrestling with death to provide us with the bare minimum to survive. 📝🌧️🍞
The Test of Survival
Today, I am not just taking an academic exam; I am taking a test of "survival." Every time I hold the pen, I think of my father, exhausted from the endless quest for water, and my little brother, who is forgetting the taste of joy. The weight of our daily struggle crushes my dreams underfoot. We are writing with our tears, striving to prove to the world that we are still here, even as they attempt to erase us. 🖋️💧🌍
I wish, if only for a fleeting moment, for time to turn back—to bring back those ordinary mornings, that backpack heavy with books instead of burdens, and that safe path that does not cross over the rubble of dreams and homes. ⏳🔙🏘️

Now she sleeps on a heat pad,
covered by my shirt —
a familiar scent she’s claimed.She shares the heat lamp
with her bearded dragon brother,
two unlikely souls
basking in warmth and stillness
keeping me company.I bring her her water bowl
when she can’t get up.
Support her body
as she walks to the food bowl
or the litter box.
Clean her wounds with saline,
give her daily meds,
and whisper love into her fur.I surround her with crystals,
Speak words of thanks,
thinking thoughts of healing.
Remembering the love and laughs
while I am breaking and holding,
mourning and loving,
all at once.Still here.
Still her guardian.
Still loving each moment together. -
So yeah, I'm still here. I'm trying to get rid of the weight the treatment has given me, unsuccessfully.
I have no sex drive at all, my body hair has changed, my self image is appalling, my back hurts all the time and my body temperature is out of control. Hot flushes, yay.
But I'm still here. Fuck cancer.

Chemotherapy is awful.
The injections for the testosterone suppression are awful.
The side effects of both are awful.But I'm still here. If I'd had no symptoms, I wouldn't be. Pretty stark.
As is seeing the box for "palliative treatment, not curable" ticked on your treatment consent form.

... And thus started a load of clinical investigations, which showed that I had a very enlarged prostate (the size of an orange), I didn't have intrusions into my bladder or bowel, but I did have masses in my lymph system. Big masses. Serious, life threatening masses.
But! Nothing in my bones, unlike Sir Chris Hoy. So no radiotherapy.
However, it did mean:
* Testosterone suppression
* Chemotherapy
* Tablets for the rest of my life -
One year to the day since I got told of a numeric result of a blood test, initially with no context.
"1206", I was told, "that's higher than usual". When I asked what usual was, "anything over 5 is problematic".
The units were ng/ml, of a compound called PSA. Prostate Specific Antigen.
When asked what that meant, the reply was "that almost certainly means advanced metastatic prostate cancer".
Oh. Crap.
