I guess I get to learn #soldering.

I ordered replacement joysticks for my #PS5 #DualSense controller, since the left stick has a serious case of #StickDrift. My in-game characters keep running to the left unprompted.

Anyway, I guess I didn't read the fine print carefully enough because I disassembled it and the stick modules are soldered to the motherboard.

Is #stickdrift on games controllers a relatively recent thing? I don’t recall ever having the issue on my ps1, ps2 or xbox360. The Switch and PS5 both suffer. What changed in joystick hardware to make it so flakey?

What are you doing this fine Saturday? Me, I'm changing my original joysticks on my #SteamDeck to #HAL joysticks. These work with a magnetic ring to measure the position of the stick, thus negating possible #StickDrift in the future. Bought them at #AliExpress, need to de-solder and re-solder just 2 wires (optional) and we're good to go. Honestly: I have been tinkering with the deck more than I have been actually playing it, but hey, it's the entertainment that counts here I get out of it.🤣
