Crisafulli made the promise to resign as premier after four years if “victim numbers” did not reduce, during a first debate with the Labor premier, Steven Miles, on 4 October.
“I’m serious about it, and I’m not giving myself any wriggle room. It’s victim numbers,” Crisafulli said.
#Chrisafooli now says on Friday that he was referring to per capita rates, and not the overall number of victims.
The #Qld Premier #StevenMiles responded by accusing the opposition leader of making an “excuse for an increase in victims”.
“The fine print of his signature commitment is that there will be more victims. It’ll just be per capita. That goes against everything he has consistently said,” the premier said.
“Now, he’s given himself three body lengths of wiggle room by saying that he meant per capita, he clearly didn’t mean per capita, because he has been critical of Labor for that increase in victims, which per capita has seen a decrease.”

#RenewableEnergy generation in Queensland has almost quadrupled since 2018, making up about 28% of the state’s #electricity.
“I’m very worried we will see a real loss of momentum,” said Dave Copeman, director of the Queensland Conservation Council (#QCC).. “And what #Queensland does can shape Australia, and what #Australia does can influence #Asia. I don’t think people get the significance.”
In April, the state government led by the premier, #StevenMiles, put into law its net zero emissions by 2050 target and a new 2035 goal to cut #emissions by 75% by 2035, based on 2005 levels, that was celebrated by #climate advocates. #qldpol #qldvotes

I really like #StevenMiles but it is a ridiculous thing to say that he will not negotiate with the #greens and #Independents to form government. I don’t know why #labor persist with this inane response! They should do anything possible to stop a #LNP government ! 🤦♂️🙄

This is an excellent policy, because many studies have shown that if children do not have sufficient food, they are unable to concentrate in class and it severely impacts their ability to learn and thus their life 🥗💐

@RichForrest2 thanks for Sharing! The lack of political will to take responsibility and action is mind-blowing 🤯 these fossil fuel corps are playing the numbers game to bypass the need for an environmental impact statement, and then doing the same thing next door!? QLD politicians meanwhile ignoring the problem - looking at you, Steven Miles, do your job FFS - because the coal is not going to add to 'our' emissions... except that it's the same bloody atmosphere! 🌏 Planet destroying bureaucratic dumbfuckery at its best. At least it's being called out now, but the fact that it has gotten this far is infuriating. I'm longing for a world where disastrous proposals like these get nipped in the bud 🙅
From the article:
"The mine is one of several applications that has been able to sidestep the EIS requirement as it is under the 2m tonne annual threshold.Vitrinite will mine 1.95m tonnes of coal each year or up to 13.5m tonnes over a nine-year period.
The company has already been granted approval for an adjacent mine, Vulcan, in March 2022 that will also produce 1.95m tonnes each year."

> After nine years in cabinet, the new premier has accrued plenty of experience dealing with natural disasters. “A fair bit of leading Queensland involves this type of thing,” he says.
> “It’s my job to convince [people] that addressing climate change isn’t a threat to jobs, it’s actually a way to protect jobs,” Miles says.

Almost 20 years ago, the then federal Labor leader, Mark Latham, found himself in the crosshairs of a young upstart union official named #StevenMiles during a “politics at the pub” event in #Brisbane. The pair clashed over Labor values.
