  1. #acquired #microsoft #billgates #pualallen #stevenballmer #dos #ibm #office #apple #stevejobs #stevewoz #davidcutler Acquired关于microsoft这一期信息量非常大,让我对微软,对Bill Gates, Pual Allen, Steve Ballmer这些创始团队的成员有了全新的认识,下面凭着自己的记忆点自认为不错的桥段吧 在大众眼中,Bill Gates发家史是一个富家子弟靠着自己的老妈的关系获得了IBM的订单从此坐上了火箭,其实探究其发展的脉络,我们就会发现,哪有那么简单的事情。 #起步阶段 微软的第一桶金是卖Basic语言的解释器的COPY给MITS公司,这个公司开发了知名的微型电脑Altair 8800,这个单子让Bill和Paul赚到了第一桶金,也促使他们将公司搬到MITS的总部所在地Albuquerque并讲公司改名为MicroSoft,那是1975年。 此刻的微软还是一个服务MITS这样的硬件公司的软件作坊,距离他们命运的转折点1981年还有六年。 这六年间微软一直在兜售他们的Basic解释器,其中还卖给了苹果,乔布斯采购微软的Basic解释的原因是:一是他们没有时间开发这个东西,二是Steve Woz一个硬件工程师一直表示无法开发出带浮点数处理的Basic解释器,而微软的Basic解释器正好满足需求。 #走向正轨 很多人说是因为Bill的老妈在IBM董事会才促使IBM采购微软的DOS系统,其实不尽然,我们要从IBM PC说起,受到苹果个人电脑Apple II的启发,IBM一直想做个人电脑,但是IBM是一家巨型的公司,当年市值高达340亿美元,他们尝试过一次研发面向个人的微型电脑 - IBM 5100,可惜失败了。 后面他们再尝试了一次,为了避免重蹈研发IBM 5100失败的覆辙,公司管理层为此成立了一个代号为Project Chess的特别行动小组,成员只有12个人,目标是一年内研发出个人电脑。 时间紧、任务急、资源少,这个项目的领导决定不采用传统的IBM自研组件的方式来研发,所有零部件都找外部供应商,因此操作系统也就找到了微软。 IBM和微软合作的故事中总会让我疑惑,一个巨型公司怎么会去找三四个人的小作坊,现在看是否就很合理了,不是IBM找微软,二是IBM里面的一个12人小组找微软。 后面关于IBM和DOS的故事大家都知道了,Bill并没有DOS系统,而Bill在什么都没有情况下向IBM打包票说自己有,然后花了50000美元买了一个系统,魔改一下就卖给了IBM,其实这个地方展示Bill的渣男性格,反正先答应下来拿到钱再说,至于结果是否能保证,无所谓的,大不了公司关门,反正也就一个小作坊.... 小插曲,就在微软搞定了IBM的合同公司走向正轨的两年后的1983年Pual生病退居幕后,不再参与公司的经营。 #从最佳苹果软件开发商到苹果操作系统的抄袭者 微软当年是苹果系统上的最佳软件开发商之一,那时候微软还只有一个DOS,Office软件最早是运行在苹果系统上的,在和苹果合作了几年后,Bill意识到GUI操作系统才是未来,因此决定基于DOS开发GUI操作系统,微软最早的GUI操作系统并不能称为操作系统,而是一种运行在DOS上的窗口管理软件,离GUI操作系统还有十万八千里,但是微软靠着开放硬件和OEM授权的模式,混的风生水起,毕竟用户哪里知道带GUI的DOS到底是什么,用就行了。乔布斯说微软没有品味不是没有来由的,微软一直是靠商业模式起家的,品味这种东西不是微软优先考虑的事情。 #SteveBallmer和2B生意 Steve Ballmer是1980年才加入微软,是公司的第24位员工,算是创世团队里面进入比较晚的,如果论资排辈的话,这个人应该只是一个高阶的管理人员,混不到拥有大笔公司的股份,地位接近创始人的位置,那为什么他这么牛逼呢? 原因是Steve Ballmer的商业能力很牛逼,在1985年前的微软真的不知道怎么做企业生意,这摊子事情都是Steve Ballmer做起来的,有些人可能认为微软的利润大头在面向个人的操作系统,其实做个人生意能赚几个毛钱,服务好企业才是王道。 #Bill受邀去做IBM的CEO 微软上市后IBM不行了,IBM差点请了Bill去做他们的CEO,不过被Bill拒绝了。 #Windows95与可口可乐 当年Windows 95的发布会动静很大,算是新闻传播的典范,导致可口可乐这家卖糖水的公司还专门向微软请教如何做营销。 #WindowsNT和DavidCutler Windows NT是微软新的阶段, David Cutler是Windows NT的首席架构师,为人性格火爆,听说80多岁还在敲代码... 好累 我居然写了这么多,建议大家去听Acquired关于Microsoft的那一期....
