Hasbro’s annual earnings came out this week, so I took a look. It is truly staggering how much Wizards of the Coast has changed the company since they were acquired; when looking at unadjusted earnings the Wizards of the Coast and Digital Games division was the only one that turned a profit in the entire company. Not only that, but Wizards is responsible for roughly 47% of the entire company’s revenue and over 90% of all revenue growth over the last year. That’s over 2 billion dollars in revenue; roughly $1.7 billion is attributable to Magic: The Gathering and the rest is attributable to Dungeons and Dragons. Dungeons and Dragons is obviously the largest, most popular roleplaying game, but $400 million in revenue is staggering. If this was all books, it would be eight million copies. It’s not all books of course; one of the reasons D&D is growing (though perhaps not as fast as Magic is) is the continued expansion of digital services like D&D Beyond, products with high margins and minimal variable costs. This is the future, not because it makes for a better gaming experience, but because it makes for a better balance sheet. Talking about #TTRPG 's today I'm reminded of a recent issues I've had with #SteveJacksonGames particularly #GURPS. I've been purchasing phyiscal books for the system since the 90's I have quite the collection of 3e and 4e books and grabbed their #DungeonFantasy set as well. I also picked up their Character creation software as GURPS characters can quickly get very complicated especially with all the calculations needed and how changing one thing can effect everything else.

I read somewhere that #Discworld was getting a new #RPG - so naturally when I googled it I found that Steve Jackson Games made a version years ago. So I picked up a copy..... and I'll probably pick up a copy of the new game as well!

An oldie, but didn't have it on my computer(s) yet.
Played the #tabletop #boardgames back when it was new, and the #Apple2 version when it came out.
Since I'm a bit of a #patientgamer I think the wait paid off. #Steam has it for 90% off and it works on my current #apple #MacbookPro as well as my #windows desktopHow could I refuse? Would have been neat if it was DRM free on GOG...

I'd love to play a #TTRPG system that combined the roll-under percentile dice mechanics of #BasicRoleplaying with the rich sourcebooks and #InfiniteWorlds backdrop of #GURPS. For solo #RPG adventures, I'd use #MatrixGames as an oracle:

@armoredkitten While I find it too simple for my tastes, there is also the newly-revived and supported #TheFantasyTrip from #SteveJacksonGames. It's a distant ancestor of #GURPS, but far simpler. #TTRPG
