The previous three books of the series indicated a significant slump in quality. Science fiction themes, in particular, had rarely worked out this far. Along came #RobotCommando. A blatant rip-off of Transformers, throwing in dinosaurs on top. Finally getting non-linear gameplay right as well.

Finished #HouseOfHell. Oufff... the insane layout of the corridors, landings and rooms may be excused by the theme. What I didn't see back in the 80s, but what was glaringly obvious this time around was all the padding. How many sections are wasted on the torture chamber or the kitchen? Enter either and you're already dead. It is finally too picky with respect to finding the one true path. Too many absurd deaths. Nevertheless, a nice trip down memory lane.

#HouseOfHell is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it has very nice (even if clichéd) moments of slow, psychological horror. On the other hand, it has zombies in a kitchen, a vampire sitting in an armchair, skeletons in the closet... i.e. a lot of fairground haunted house shocks which honestly feel out of place. Isn't this the story of a satanic cult wanting to sacrifice a woman? Why do they have zombies roaming around?

Does anybody remember the game In Nomine, by Steve Jackson games? It was a very interesting concept, but it seems to have disappeared from the #ttrpg consciousness.
