On July 26, 2022 Kino Lorber released a version of this film on 4K

#thekilling #sterlinghayden #stanleykubrick #reelyoldmovies

From IMDb: Kirk Douglas was so impressed with this film that he sought out the director for his next project, Paths of Glory (1957).
#thekilling #sterlinghayden #stanleykubrick #reelyoldmovies

From IMDb: Initial test screenings were poor, citing the non-linear structure as the main problem. Stanley Kubrick was forced to go back and edit the film in a linear fashion, making the film even more confusing. In the end, it was released in its original form, and is often cited as being a huge influence on other non-linear films like Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Pulp Fiction (1994).

Happy Anniversary to JOHNNY GUITAR, which premiered on this day 70 years ago in Los Angeles.
“After helping a wounded gang member, a strong-willed female saloon owner is wrongly suspected of murder and bank robbery by a lynch mob.”

This has been in my top ten favorite movie list ever since I saw it the first time.

Naked Alibi (1954)

Average police procedural and copaganda of the worst kind.

There are two arguments in favor of the film: Sterling Hayden, it's always a pleasure to see and ESP: hear this man. And there's Gloria Grahame, who is probably one of the hottest femme fatales in film history.
Only because of her this 2 star movie gets my Like.

Sinatra's performance as the psychopath was good, but not good enough to redeem Suddenly.

Sometimes you stumble across an actors Wikipedia page that leaves you speechless.

Sterling Hayden
At the age of 17, he left his parents home and went to sea, worked his way up quickly, was given his first ship's command at the age of 19 and sailed around the world. Two years later, he obtained a captain's license.
After a ship under his command sank in a storm - Hayden was only 25 at the time - he tried his luck in Hollywood, ...

I just finished reading The Long Goodbye and so of course I'm rewatching the Robert Altman movie. The plot of the movie is clearly inspired by the novel but its DRAMATICALLY different. Of course they're both good. The movie is one of my favorites, up there with The Big Lebowski and The Big Sleep. One thing I really have to call out is the absolutely superb acting by Sterling Hayden as the alcoholic writer Roger Wade. What a masterful performance. #philipmarlowe #raymondchandler #sterlinghayden

The Asphalt Jungle (1950), John Huston’s faithful and excellent adaptation of W.R. Burnett’s great novel. An excellent film noir about a heist. Fine performance by Sterling Hayden. Marilyn Monroe has a bit part.
