When people can't get my passion for extreme music, but still want to understand it, I usually give examples where the perception of the "extreme" obviously goes beyond the mere sound and easily reveals the sound being the vehicle for extreme emotions. If it's coupled with ambience and comes with good video, it's potentially even more accessible.

I’m going for The Chords with Maybe Tomorrow as an intro to the youth movement and genre that means the most to me, the Mod Revival scene of the late 70s early 80s. It’s a great track, upbeat, a bit angry, a crowd pleaser and good to ‘dance’ to. For me it sums up the feeling and the music of the scene at the time, and I still love it today. #SteppingStonesSongs (added due to ‘the fork’)

Of course, tango as a musical form originated from Argentina, but it has had a very special impact on the history of Finnish popular music as well. If you've ever been curious about the Finnish version of tango, a good place to start would be one of the classic tango recordings of Olavi Virta (1915-1972), the all-time most popular Finnish male singer:
