Unfortunately, the clouds on the left moved faster than I expected, and besides the changing light, I only enjoyed the lake for a few short minutes. As soon as I got back to the car, it started pouring.

Two hundred million years ago, #prosauropods walked the earth. They left something behind.
The finding in #Stelvio National Park, near the Swiss border, consists of thousands of fossilized footprints more than 200 million years old. The tracks, some of them stretching for hundreds of yards, are so well preserved that marks of toes and claws are visible.

"The discovery in the #Stelvio NP was striking for the sheer number of footprints, estimated at 20,000 over some 5 km, and the location near the Swiss border, once a prehistoric coastal area, that has never previously yielded tracks of #dinosaurs... they have been made by long-necked bipedal herbivores that were up to 10 m long, weighing up to 4 tons, similar to a #Plateosaurus"

Paleontolodzy odkryli tysiące odcisków dinozaurów na niemal pionowej ścianie skalnej w Parku Narodowym Stelvio w Alpach Retyckich na północy Włoch.

Ślady powstały w miękkim mule, który z czasem przekształcił się w skałę, a ruchy płyt tektonicznych sprawiły, że dawne dno laguny zostało wypiętrzone i dziś tworzy niemal pionową ścianę skalną.

Według ekspertów ślady zostały pozostawione przez stada długoszyich roślinożerców, najprawdopodobniej plateozaurów.

Thousands of dinosaur footprints dating back 210 million years have been found in a national park in northern Italy.

The footprints - some of which are up to 40cm in diameter - are aligned in parallel rows, and many show clear traces of toes and claws.
