I have done the bathrooms and the kitchen, which means I have faced the main #demons directly.

#Coffee rings.

The mysterious sticky patch that no one admits creating.

Now Pete is doing the floors.

First the #vacuum.

Then the #steamer.

The steamer hisses like a serpent, so now it sounds as though Pete is chasing #Satan down the hallway with a #domestic appliance.

I am sitting here with coffee, looking #innocent, while the house undergoes #spiritual pressure-washing.

By the end of this, the #floorboards will have confessed, the grout will be forgiven, and whatever was living behind the #toaster will have packed a small bag and left quietly.

Not bad for a #Sunday morning.

Poor Britain, no path to sanity.

"Barefoot In The Head" was a Brian Aldiss book 1979, SciFi, a true great book.

The premise is that the 3rd World War was fought between Saudi Arabia and Europe, and the Saudis dropped hallucinogenic bombs, producing multi year LSD trips in most of the population.

I propose a national study to determine if the book is fiction.

In Scotland, for some unaccountable reason, we have many words meaning "drunk" including bleized, bluitert, bladdered, bungfu, chackit, fleein, fou, fuddelt, hammered, jaked, mingin, rairie, reekin, stottin, stotious, stovin and many more. But one, "steamin", has an interesting origin.

In 1841, a law was passed in Scotland limiting the sale of #alcohol in an attempt to curb the growing issues of alcoholism. The law stated that only a "bona fide'" traveller could purchase alcohol on a Sunday for their "comfort".

Two weeks after the law was passed, pleasure steamers began the first Clyde Cruises on a Sunday where it was possible to partake of strong #beer and #whisky. The original "booze cruise".

"Steamin", meaning drunk, enters the vocabulary.

This is a photo of "Waverley", the world's last seagoing paddle steamer, as she's steamin down the Kyes of Bute.

Coos Bay Historical Railroad No. 104 is an old steam locomotive located at the Coo's Bay Historical Railroad in Coos Bay Oregon.
In areas where the terrain was level it was not uncommon for this iron horse to pull 100 cars loaded with logs at one time.

She bought a cheap one. It is garbage and we hate it.

What features do I even want in a rice steamer? At the very least, it should be easy to use, have a visible timer and not form a rice crust at the bottom of the cooking vessel.
