I won't sugar coat this. In much of Ontario, including GTA our daily numbers of #COVID19 have been steadily rising for weeks, no more so than in the last 10 days. While some of this is accounted for by increased testing, most of this is not and reflects a real rise in the incidence of new cases in our community.
> The reproductive number over time (Rt) is a key metric of the status of transmission. In simple terms, it represents the number of people that are being infected by an individual case. If Rt is > 1, it means each person infected with COVID-19 is likely to be infecting at least 1 other person and that person at least another, and so on, and so on. Simply put, it's the precursor to exponential growth on a pandemic curve. Said otherwise, it's the beginning of the 2nd wave.
In the GTA, Rt has been over 1 for 31 days.

What if I told you that at my hospital, UHN, (the largest acute tertiary care hospital network in Canada), we went from ZERO cases of Covid-19 for several weeks to 7 in the last 7 days, majority in ICU? THIS is very worrisome. Why? Once cases spill into hospital, especially the ICU, it's an indication that community transmission has exceeded a critical threshold. The virus has crept from those who are asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic and reached those who are more vulnerable and immune compromised who will be at much greater risk of severe illness. It's here and it's real. We have a choice now. We can deny, dismiss and minimize, inviting threat of an even worse 2nd wave and more lockdowns. Or we can remember what we did just a few months ago knowing our mindset and behavior made all the difference to survive. Respect the threat of Covid-19. Respect your family, your elders, your neighbors, your co-workers, your teachers, your whole community.

So.... eine befreundete Person ist positiv. Vor paar Tagen krank geworden, dann direkt PCR Test machen lassen. Gestern kam das Ergebnis. 😞😔
Niemand weiss, wo sie sich angesteckt haben könnte. Sie geht eigtl nicht ohne Maske raus. Aber Besuche bei anderen befreundeten Menschen macht man ja nicht mit Maske.
Ich jetzt schon. Ich war die Person vor 2 Wochen besuchen. Ein Glück ist der Zeitabstand zu groß, als dass das übertragen worden wäre. Mein Schnelltest war auch negativ gestern.
Ein Glück ist die Person geimpft und hat bisher nur leichte Symptome. Ich hoffe, das bleibt so.
Liebe Leute, geht Besuche am besten nur noch mit Maske machen.☝️
Auch wenn es sich doof anfühlt, weil man ja vllt Freunde besuchen geht. Aber niemand weiss, wo man sich ansteckt, und an wen man das alles so weitergibt unbemerkt. Es geht so schnell, und dann hat man es.

@TonyStark I'm amazed that people still traveled for Christmas after seeing others sick after Thanksgiving. I'd like to think there will be no New Year's Eve parties, but I doubt enough people have learned their lessons yet.

Unbelievably, there are still many out there who scoff at this deadly disease as if it were a hangnail and attempt to minimize it so they can do what they want (not wear masks, go out to crowded gatherings, etc.) and see themselves as blameless. It's absolutely deplorable.
It seems there is nothing that will get through to those people until they themselves die from this or they wipe out our medical professionals.

@NatashaRomanoff At a Zoom meeting we talked about our Thanksgivings at the beginning. Everyone on time stayed home. At the end, someone who got on late asked if we could move our next meeting to accommodate their personal Christmas travel. I expressed my strong opinion that people need to #StayTheFuckHome, and I got backup from others. The response? The person was "being safe." No, traveling to another state for Christmas, after you just traveled for Thanksgiving, is in no way "being safe."

@MariaHill I saw people I thought were smart posting photos online of themselves crossing state lines to visit relatives anyway, thinking it was fine because they stayed home for 14 days beforehand and got tested first. The thing is, you can't trust that every person you or your family came into contact with was that conscientious. We were all supposed to #StayTheFuckHome for Thanksgiving, but some people thought they could be the exception.
