🎶 Gisteren gezien in #dnk Station To Station met de Serious Moonlight Tour van #davidbowie uit 1983. Prima show en geweldige band. Daarom jammer dat er zo weinig publiek was. Echt een aanrader.

Snow-powered train still chugging 50 years on

Today, it's 50 years since ”Station to Station” was released. Some albums are so monumental, you better have a couple of copies at home. This one is a true classic. Without a doubt, ”Station to Station” is mostly a cold and alienated experience.
Out of the album's six songs, three of them are among my all-time Bowie faves, and the rest of the songs are ”only” mandatory listening for anyone (and there are three Bowie albums I hold higher than this one).

"Stay - that's what I meant to say or do something
But what I never say is stay this time
I really meant to so bad this time
'cause you can never really tell when somebody
Wants something you want too"

"Here are we, one magical moment
Such is the stuff, from where dreams are woven
Bending sound, dredging the ocean
Lost in my circle
Here am I, flashing no colour
Tall in this room overlooking the ocean
Here are we, one magical movement
From Kether to Malkuth
There are you, drive like a demon
From station to station..." -
"Golden Years" is a song by the English musician #DavidBowie, released by #RCARecords on 21 November 1975 as the #leadSingle from his tenth studio album #StationToStation (1976). Partially written before Bowie began shooting for the film #TheManWhoFellToEarth (1976), the song was mostly compiled in the studio and was the first track completed for the album. Co-produced by Bowie and #HarryMaslin.

The sixth entry in Simon Goddard’s magnificent and irresistible series of books on the life and times of the inimitable David Bowie in the seventies is yet another exquisitely written and perfectly compiled piece of work that leaves nothing to be desired.
While Bowie Odyssey 70 was an enjoyable read, it did […]

The evening’s “live” selection on deck is one I actually watched when Bowie and the band performed this rendition. Somewhere in my stuff is a VHS tape with it on there. Holy shit, I’m old.

One of my “standards” from Bowie (along with “Rebel Rebel”) when I was a professional radio pronouncticator at my first radio station.

When I take my late son’s restored pickup truck Walter to car shows in the summer months, whenever there’s music, it’s mostly oldies like you’d hear on the “American Graffiti” soundtrack. That’s OK but I’m hoping to get some classic rock into the mix as well and Bowie would definitely be on my car show playlist.

The word is Wind
Song: “Wild is the Wind”I was surprised to find that this song, written by #DimitriTiomkin and #NedWashington, was first recorded by #JohnnyMathis for the 1957 film of the same name; I think of it as #NinaSimone’s, the title track from her 1966 LP, and I still regard hers as the definitive version.
I first met this song, however, via #DavidBowie’s elegant interpretation on #StationToStation. Of course I knew plenty of #Bowie but after finding he was the favorite of an entrancing boy I met at college, I took a deep dive into the Bowie catalog, and never regretted it. He always said that this was the most romantic song in the world - sadly he said that neither TO nor ABOUT me - but as much as I love Bowie’s stately version, his delivery is mannered, arch; Nina’s wrenching delivery blows Bowie’s out of the water, while allowing me to sidestep my own gut wrenching association with the song. Thanks, Nina!
