  5. Hello everyone! 👋 I'm here again.

I've write a small bash script that launch your browser, after launching Jekyll for previewing. But it will be useless if you don't use Jekyll 🤷‍♂️

But for those ones who use 👉 codeberg.org/xolatgames/jekyll 😉

    P.S: jekyllrb.com/ 🧪

"forgejo" comes from the Esperanto word "forĝejo".

"retejo" is (also) an Esperanto word.

The meaning of the Esperanto word "retejo" can be understood as follows:

ret-: The root for "net" or "web".
-ej-: A suffix meaning "place" or "site".
    -o: The noun ending.

    codeberg.org/reiver/retejo

  7. I wish I knew about this when I was giving my #PocketPortal workshops: WobbleWeb / wwwobble, an open-source drag-and-drop visual site editor by @ojack.

You can also export the static site to host it on Codeberg or the host of your choice.

  8. Hi, people! ✌️ Here's a small redesign of my website:

    xolat.games/

I decided to change the background color from the blue to a green (almostly cyan), and added my new face (the picture is attached) to "🏠 Home" page (instead of the previous arts)

  9. I wish I could make a simple #staticwebsite using #lualatex that looked just as pretty as #html + #css sites.

I am aware of #HUGO to make static sites with markdown, but I still feel inclined to use #TeX and friends.

  10. Right friends after a LOT of work here we go with the 0.3.2 release of bovine for #selfhosted #forgejo or #gitea #staticwebsite #staticsite just like GitHub/GitLab Pages!

This brings lots of new features from 0.3.x and 0.2.0. This includes the BIG changes from 0.3.x which allows serving sites from other branches, meaning you can test before you release!

  11. Ok it’s 0:40am but I just got branches and passwords for branches working properly in version 0.3.1 of bovine!!!! #forgejo #staticwebsite

  12. While trying to find employment, and before delving into Swift, I decided to update git.sr.ht/~hxii/hajime

After I’ll fix things up and organize the code, I am planning on reinforcing the basic Obsidian support.

I asked you what you use for comment management last month. Today, I'm bringing some changes to how I manage comments on my own blog. Read about it here and let me know what you think: ilyess.cc/posts/why-im-adding-

    №1:

The software powering Codeberg Pages seems like it isn't being maintained anymore beyond minor fixes

    №2:

Although Codeberg is pretty reliable, Codeberg Pages doesn't that reliable.

    ...

    So, I thought —

Although I've had a Codeberg account for a number of years — I recently started the process of migrating over to Codeberg (from GitHub).

Codeberg has something similar to GitHub Pages — called Codeberg Pages

    codeberg.page/

    However —

    ...

    #ActivityPub #ActivityStreams #codeberg #forgejo #GeminiProtocol #gitea #markdown #retejo #SmallNet #SmallWeb #StaticSite #StaticWeb #StaticWebSite

  16. 2/

Retejo pulls its data from a Forgejo / Gitea site — such as Codeberg.

That means I can write things using whatever text-editor I want by editing a file.

And then push that file to Codeberg — or any other Forgejo / Gitea site — using git

And then, it automatically shows up on my Retejo site

    codeberg.org/reiver/retejo

  17. 1/

Another motivation for creating Retejo is this:

    mastodon.social/@reiver/114076

I want to be able to write long-form articles using whatever text-editor I choose to use, editing a file, and using git.

Not everyone will want to create long-form content this way — but I want to create long-form content this way.

    ...

    RE: mastodon.social/@reiver/115203

    #ActivityPub #ActivityStreams #codeberg #forgejo #GeminiProtocol #gitea #markdown #retejo #SmallNet #SmallWeb #StaticSite #StaticWeb #StaticWebSite

  18. 3/

I kept that type of user in mind when designing Retejo —

That some people want to write in Markdown rather than HTML.

So, Retejo has native support for Markdown.

And, in particular, CommonMark with the GitHub Flavored Markdown (GTM) extensions that most people expect nowadays.

  19. 2/

One thing I noticed about the Gemini-Protocol community is that —

Some of the people who are attracted to Gemini are attracted to it, because — they want a Web that was based on Markdown instead of HTML.

And, the Gemini-Protocol + gemtext seemed close to being a Markdown-based Web.

  20. Retejo

I have been working on a new type of web-server for serving static web-sites.

I started working on it recently — on August 23rd. But, have had the idea for it for a number of years.

    ...

What is different about this web-server for static web-sites‽

Well, of course, it supports HTML.

But, it also supports Markdown, and ActivityPub natively!

  21. Should one use to generate a website on for uploading to a ? Or are there other alternatives? What do you use? I am not an total novice but like an easy life not chasing missing brackets deep into the night

  22. It took me 4 years procrastinating on doing a #jekyll website. We want to have something to show our #croft and the products we sell from it. So here the excuse.
I must admit that it was an amazing experience to make this #staticwebsite. There is no need of much for us and I am toying with the idea of switching all my companies resources on something much more environmentally friendly. We all use too many resources for not much output.

  23. Are people even using something else than YAML front matter in their Markdown (or whatever) files?

Apparently there are SSGs that support HTML <meta> tag front matter, and if you're using ReStructured Text it probably does its own thing. And I bet there's at least one person on the planet building their website from ASN.1 files.

    What are _you_ using?

  26. Looking for CMS advice

    Hey Web devs!

Do you have any suggestions, tips, opinions, dos, don’ts about headless CMSes?

I have a growing list of small/mid non-profits and collectives asking for my help to (re)make their website. I totally want to help, but I don’t have much time, especially considering that they generally have little or no funding—I would most definitely point them to @VillageOneCoop, otherwise.

Therefore, I want a super simple and replicable solution where I can copy-paste most of the code, while providing them with a stable, fast, and modern solution. I had a look at the Headless CMS section in the Jamstack website, but I need opinions from people who actually used some of that software already.

    Needs

    • I want to code and configure everything using @eleventy
    • Admin interface (#WebApp) for the client to add pages and write posts
    • Static website in the front-end
    • Simple and reliable CI/CD
    • No/minimal maintenance after the first setup
    • Self-hostable (I was taking this for granted so much that I forgot to write it)
    • If it requires forge integration, it should support #ForgeJo
    • #OpenSource

    Nice to have

    • Possibly using #Deno, not #NodeJS
    • Allowing the client to customize a bit their website through the admin interface, with a GUI
    • CMS app packaged on @yunohost
    • No CMS vendor lock-in
    • I’d love to write as little JavaScript as possible
    • #FreeSoftware

    Absolutely not

Please, boost this and ask around! Links to videos, tutorials, and resources are welcome.

    People whose perspective I would really value: @zachleat @harryfk @deno_land @jaredwhite @vanillaweb @stefan @mxbck @WeirdWriter @deadsuperhero (Sorry if I am spamming you!)

  27. I like URLs that are descriptive but sharing them in posts take up a lot of valuable characters. I don't want to use a third party url shortner because of the chance for dead links. And even if I host it, it's decoupled from the content and adds another link in the chain that could break. Thanks to @kaushalmodi's ox-hugo, even obscure Hugo features are usable.

So I decided to add short URL of the site, by the site, for the site: shom.dev/s/1ba87346
