Trump could have persuaded Americans about the need for an #IranWar during his recent #StateOfTheUnion speech, or during his even more recent 19 minute speech to the American people. He failed to do so.
Polls show that the #IranWar is an unpopular war. Susan Glasser, an American journalist, said Trump's 19 minute speech was a lot like a Truth Social post. Truth Social, despite its name, is a place where truth is hard to find. It is partially owned by often dishonest Donald Trump..

Last night during our banned book club meeting I learned that I.C.E. kidnapped some people from the parking lot of our local grocery store with the help of our police department last week and our state penitentiary subcontracts prison labor to corporations.
Great. Now I have two local issues to be depressed about this morning.
Maybe I'll just go back to bed.

"Boasted about low gasoline prices, which he said were below 230 a gallon in most states. None of that was true. I don't think there was a single actually true number in the speech. But the general position was, you know, things are doing great.
Doesn't look that way this morning."

"It's 17 days since the State of the Union address in which Donald Trump basically tried to allay concerns about affordability and all of that by insisting that everything is great. Talked about a golden age, about fantastic job growth like nothing you've ever seen."

BARCELONA–It’s a treat to be able to start off a post with this dateline. This is the 13th trip that’s afforded me that opportunity and the 12th involving MWC. But this trip isn’t like the ones before it in one way; on my way across the Atlantic, my country started a war of choice because the president felt like it. The world is better without Iran’s worthless, murdering theocrat Ali Khameni, but I have little confidence in the Trump administration’s ability to do the right things for that long-suffering country.
In addition to the links you see below, Patreon readers got a bonus post from me in which I shared lessons learned from more than 10 years of booking Airbnbs.

I didn’t watch the entire State of the Union address because self-care is an important thing, but after reading about President Trump’s call for data-center operators to pay for their electricity and power infrastructure, I knew I’d have to write about that initiative.

I still don’t quite get the point of adding Starlink connectivity to aircraft that won’t fly longer than 15 minutes or higher than 4,000 feet above major cities, but this was an easy post to crank out Friday morning before heading to Dulles that afternoon to start my journey to Spain.

"On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump puffed up his chest, thrust out his chin, presented his aged jowls to the TV cameras, and from the rostrum of the House Chamber gave his best Mussolini impression. …
Hannah Arendt wrote about the banality of evil. There was, in this speech, enough banality to fill an oil tanker."

CHART OF THE WEEK
At the #StateOfTheUnion, President Trump backed a bill to ban lawmakers and their families from buying stocks. Another bill would bar them from owning stocks at all.
Some members reported tens of millions in trade value in 2025.

At yesterday's #StateOfTheUnion address (a Constitutionally mandated annual report which has become largely political theater):
> The president noted his continued interest in receiving the Medal of Honor himself.
https://www.live5news.com/2026/02/25/here-is-everyone-trump-awarded-medal-during-state-union/
> "I've always wanted the Congressional Medal of Honor, but I was informed I'm not allowed to give it myself... If they ever open up that law, I'll be there with you someday," he told 100-year-old Medal of Honor recipient Capt. E. Royce Williams.
https://www.insidernj.com/trumps-self-invocation-desecrates-the-medal-of-honor/
There are four different #MedalOfHonor statutes:
• Air Force + Space Force (10 U.S. Code § 9271)
• Army (10 U.S. Code § 7271)
• Coast Guard (14 U.S. Code § 2732)
• Naval Force (10 U.S. Code § 8291)
Each statute has the same structure require distinguished service in a legitimate adversarial military engagement by a member of the named armed services. So, sounds like #Trump has quite the di-dilemma (tetralemma?) as to which #CongressionalMedalOfHonor to award himself and give even low-information voters an easy hook on which to hang impeachment charges.
> The President may award, and present in the name of Congress, a medal of honor of appropriate design, with ribbons and appurtenances, to a person who, while a member of [PICK ONE], distinguishes himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty—
> (1) while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;
> (2) while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or
> (3) while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.

I think the State of the Union, as performed now, is only useful in that it might provide some entertainment if the speaker shits his pants live on TV. Otherwise, I struggle to see the point.
