    I have been thinking about #gemini #protocol lately and it's #TOFU model in particular. While I understand what they are going for, I think it's still really vurnelable against attacks from the #StateActors. Even if #HTTPS cannot penetrate the block, lack of #certificate alerts user to the tampering.
    The system where each #server has something like a #webring of hashes certificates of other #websites and clients would check if site supplies real or fake certificates is interesting, but the system still need #bootstraping (Maybe with the help of something like #TOR or #I2P) and it still has risk of sites being #coerced into hosting #fraudulent certificates and then using them to act as #MITM.
    Perhaps system of more reasonable compromises can exist, but I am not sure.

    If you are at all concerned about the rise in #racist #troll #informationsecurity here is an interesting bit of #osint on activity at one of the main sources of #harassment

    This graph shows the level of activity at a fediverse site that is blocked on many or most instances and is responsible for a large amount of the attacks on #journalists #BIPOC

    The point is that we can expect this trendline to extrapolate into the new year and there will be more #contentmoderation difficulties.

    That is not even beginning to factor in #stateactors who undoubtedly will try to cause problems, especially as the #2024election draws closer and closer.

    Not entirely sure it exactly correlates to the rise in Mastodon signups but I am sure someone has the comparison data at their fingertips.

    @calindrome Sadly, it'll be #StateActors doing it to encourage more splits in our society by creating chaotic radicalised groups.

    KGB trained operatives like #Putin thrive on chaos, they can use it to recruit people or to generally keep domestic #intelligence agencies, #police, #journalists and #politicians busy with other stuff.

    The 2020 #Incel attack in #Canada probably influenced #legislation that will further divide #Liberals and #Conservatives :(
