Wow, Linux is at 7.53% market share now according to StatCounter. Just in May it was at 3.81% and June was 5.59%. This tracks with me saying previously that 2026 would be the year of the Linux desktop as Windows 10 lost extended support and many users would refuse to go to Windows 11. Microslop threw a wrench into this though with keeping security updates going for Windows 10 for 2 more free years, which is good they did but still.

This tracks with me saying previously that 2026 would be the year of the Linux desktop as Windows 10 lost extended support and many users would refuse to go to Windows 11. Microslop threw a wrench into this though with keeping security updates going for Windows 10 for 2 more free years, which is good they did but still.

For example, bots, AI crawlers, scrapers, modified user agents, and other #traffic patterns can manipulate or distort the numbers, causing a brief spike or drop like we’re seeing in the case of Windows’ overall market share now, or Windows 7 last year.

Linux-Nutzer in der Webstatistik

Bei Caschy ist die aktuelle Betriebssystem-Statistik erschienen und dass Linux eine Verbreitung von knapp über 3% in der Desktop-Nutzung besitzt. Die Server-Nutzung lassen wir hier aus der Diskussion mal raus.

Mal abgesehen davon, dass Webstatistiken von StatCounter so semi sind, beachtet ja kaum jemand, dass Linux-Nutzer oft deutlich mehr Wert auf Privatsphäre legen und daher eine überdurchschnittlich hohe Anzahl der User die Web-Trackings blockiert und somit nicht in die Statistik zählt.

Die Zahl der Blockierer ist auf anderen Betriebssystemen mangels Interesse und Möglichkeiten deutlich geringer und deshalb werden sie viel häufiger gezählt. Eine Messung mittels der User-Agents auf Abruf-Ebene wäre unter Umständen genauer, weil deutlich weniger Endnutzer ihre User-Agent-Kennung ändern.

iOS 26 notuje wyjątkowo wolną adopcję kilka miesięcy po premierze

Z danych StatCounter ze stycznia 2026 roku wynika, że tylko 15–16% aktywnych iPhone’ów na świecie działa na iOS 26.

Dla porównania, analogiczne wersje iOS w poprzednich latach osiągały ponad 50–60% adopcji w podobnym czasie. Większość użytkowników pozostaje na iOS 18, głównie dzięki dalszym aktualizacjom bezpieczeństwa oraz mieszanym opiniom wokół nowego interfejsu Liquid Glass, który wprowadza radykalne zmiany wizualne.

Brak oficjalnych danych Apple nie zmienia obrazu: użytkownicy wyraźnie wstrzymują się z aktualizacją.

Komentarz

Chętnie zobaczyłbym również dane dotyczące adopcji macOS Tahoe – podejrzewam, że w tym przypadku ta byłaby jeszcze niższa. Wiele osób narzeka na Liquid Glass, choć Apple znacznie poprawiło ten nowy interfejs od dnia jego premiery. Przynajmniej na iOS 26.2, ale problem leży gdzie indziej. Nawet jeśli iOS jest nieustannie poprawiany, to pozostałe systemy dostają te zmiany z opóźnieniem lub w ogóle. Przez to brakuje spójności pomiędzy nimi, do której Apple przez dekady nas przyzwyczajało. Nawet jeśli nie są to wielkie braki, ale lekka zmiana ikonografii to tu to tam, nie dziwię się, że wiele osób się wstrzymuje.

Whatever is going on over at statcounter, their desktop OS stats are hilarious at the moment.

- over 7 % unknown OS: I would be very interested in learning which OS that is and why they are unable to detect 7 % of desktop OSs in use
- macOS is now devided in macOS and OS X without any explanation whatsover: macOS is at 5 %. Odd since I doubt entire Apple OS desktop share for OSs newer than 10.11 El Capitan is 5 % while OS X is still 10 %, this makes no sense. There was a problem that macOS just announced all newer OSs as macOS 10.16 or something like that, so maybe that is now what they call "macOS"? Still no info from #statcounter on their proprietary social network accounts. While that would make some sense the numbers still don't add up at all
- also why differentiate Apple desktop OS while windows is all one OS?

En Steam diciembre cerro con un 2.29% de usuarios en Linux/SteamOS.

Por otro lado en statcounter la tendencia se mantiene por encima del 4% (sin contar el casi 2% de ChromeOs que viene a ser otro linux).

Si además en este 2025 llegan nuevas "consolas" de otras marcas con SteamOS/Linux es probable que el dato mejore. 🚀

Las estadísticas 📈 de Steam en octubre vuelven a dar una cuota de usuarios del 2% para Linux / SteamOS.

Por otro lado en statcounter el uso de #Linux (sin ChromeOS) se mantiene por encima del 4% para escritorio.

Los números son estables con un crecimiento significativo en los últimos años.

Mientras la #SteamDeck 🎮 ha sido un impulso para el video juego en Linux, en el escritorio no hay ninguna gran compañía detrás y eso es mas meritorio si cabe.
