  1. If nothing else, Star Trek: Generations is a fitting passing of the torch of contrived writing that characterized earlier entries in the franchise.

  4. I just love scanning for life-forms.

🎶 Life-forms. You tiny little life-forms. You precious little life-forms. Where are you? 🎶

"'#StarTrek: #Generations' introduced us to the #Excelsior II-class #Enterprise-B. But it also gave us a puzzle: the location of deck fifteen. In this video, we look at the problem and attempt to solve it in-universe."

  10. a thing I've been thinking about off and on since I started #TheNextGeneration, but that I've been thinking about A LOT since watching the #TNG movie #StarTrekGenerations is the way our moral anxiety* about cell phones and interconnectedness shows up in #StarTrek

like Picard is doing his super weird level up ceremony, and then when someone's like "hey there's a call for you" he starts wringing his hands about how the "real freedom" is being on a boat in the ocean in the 1700s or whenever bc no one could call you

    a) those captains also had duties and responsibilities, they weren't just fucking off forever on pleasure cruises

    b) YOU CAN QUIT, SIR. you can just (somehow) acquire a small ship and fuck off forever into space. you have not been drafted and you do not need your salary to support your family. you can literally retire and do whatever your heart desires

    * idk if it counted as a moral panic?

will someone please explain to me like I'm Data, why dumping Commander Crusher into the water wasn't funny, but dumping Lieutenant Commander Worf into the water was?

bc all I have is sexism: it's funny when it happens to a man, but not funny when it happens to a woman. honestly, I thought Data pushing Crusher in was funnier, bc it was more unexpected

here's my case, then, for why Data pushing Crusher in was funny, but Riker dumping Worf in was NOT funny:

    1) Riker punched down; Data punched up (in terms of rank)

    2) Worf literally jumped through a (figurative) hoop, beat the odds and should have been rewarded by remaining dry; Crusher basically gave Data a set of instructions which he immediately followed, which she should have expected bc she's known him for seven years

    3) Riker was being a dick; Data was genuinely trying to be funny

  12. Alright. I'm appealing to the #retro #RetroGaming #RetroPCgaming community - I want to play #StarTrekGenerations again. I played it on my family #PC back in the late 90s as a mini-Becca (and upstaged my big brother by getting further than he did) and I've got a huge urge to try it again. But I can't get it to run on #DOSBox and I've googled the heck out of it! Does anybody have any ideas?
