Throwback Thursday – Meeting John Scalzi
A year ago today, award winning author John Scalzi came to Medina and did a Q&A at our local library. Afterwards, he was gracious enough to do a book signing. As I had recently purchased Starter Villain, which was his latest book at the time, so I now have a signed copy!

These past couple years, I’ve gotten back into #fiction reading. Mostly #scifi and #fantasy, of course. For a precious few minutes a day, entire worlds are opened up to me. I can’t describe how wonderful it’s been.
Now reading: #Oathbringer (Sanderson) and #RedRising (Brown).
On deck: #ShatteredEarth (Tchaikovsky), #StarterVillain (Scalzi) and #HailMary (Weir).

I Met John Scalzi!!!
Author John Scalzi came to the Medina County District Library tonight to present his master class on sustainable super villainy and his best selling manual, Starter Villain.
Scalzi Written, Tyrion ApprovedIt was an entertaining and captivating hour hearing John answer questions and tell series about his writing, both what he’s written and the process itself.
I’m actually distracted by the backdrop for our selfie.I’m looking forward to John’s next book coming out in 2025, When The Moon Hits Your Eye, as well as the seventh installment in the Old Man’s War series later next year.

Example of masterfully written awkward moments:In Starter Villain (by John Scalzi), there's a scene at the beginning where the MC tries to get a bank loan, which gets more and more awkward until they're talking about the wedding gift sent by his rich uncle . . .
Scalzi is the master of snarky dialogue, but this is less snarky and more, well, awkward. Intentionally so.

We highly recommend #StarterVillain by @scalzi . We thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook narrated by #WilWheaton. We had been looking for a funny original story for a while and it seemed like there was nothing out there but stand-up comedians and their (ghost) writers.
#DogsOfMastodon might worry that #Cats have main character energy in the story but Moxxi says that the dolphins made up for it. She's crossing her toe beans for a story involving a witty #corgi next.
