  1. If you generate a system with one system, it locks the “universe” to either Traveller or SWN tech level. Then I told myself: why not import TravellerMap data, there is an API for that…

  2. My code now generates not only the main world in a system, but all planets, gas giants, planetoid belts, and all of their satellites, including day length and year length, taking into account tide-locked planets or satellites, etc.

  3. I have a new Stars Without Number VTT focused on the *system* – not just a generic VTT. Think sector generation with hidden trade routes and detailed character sheets. The SWN VTT includes interactive initiative, battle maps with fog of war, and a robust in-game comms system. Check it out:

  4. The #BundleOfHolding just launched a #WorldsWithoutNumber deal - $13 for the book and some setting detail. This is the fantasy version of the modern classic sci-fi world-creation tools #StarsWithoutNumber and a great price for the package.

  5. Yesterday evening I attended my first game of Stars Without Number. A guy on Reddit was soliciting for players living nearby and it was only ~500m from my place, so I thought why the hell not!

The session went well as he was a pretty experienced GM and people were excited to play. We were 6 guys in total, a good mix from different countries.

  6. @Lhundrup303 #Traveller is a pretty good choice to cover those bases.
If you wanted to really be able to fine-tune vehicles, what exists in your setting, ship design et al, you could look at #GURPS Space and the like. But that's generally more crunch than people want in their setup.
You could also look at #StarsWithoutNumber for another option.

  7. In "Cyberpunk But Different!", we take a break from our #CyberpunkRED campaign to talk about #CitiesWithoutNumber.

Building on #WorldsWithoutNumber and #StarsWithoutNumber, this rulebook provides a cyberpunk ruleset for a generic world (well, it's generic until you get done setting up your campaign with a bunch of cool random generator). #Cyberpunk

  8. Are there any #videogames that feel similar in style and activities to the #ttrpg systems #Traveller, #StarsWithoutNumber, Rogue Trader, or Scum and Villainy?
Seems like a niche with great potential if there isn't.

  9. #RPGaDay2023 Q3:
    First RPG BOUGHT (this year)

This year it was Stars Without Number, which looks a lot of fun but I haven't had a chance to run it yet

First ever with my own money would have been Middle-Earth Role Playing (2nd edition)

  10. GM's who've been running campaigns in #Traveller #StarsWithoutNumber and similar games, what is your experience with finding a good size for the setting and the number of actually detailed planets that might come up meaningfully in a campaign?

  11. So what should we collectively call #Traveller #StarsWithoutNumber and #ScumAndVillainy (And maybe also #Coriolis )

It seems to me that these are all just different game mechanics to represent the same kind of science fiction setting. Anything that isn't a game mechanic question should apply to each one like to any other.

    Is it Space Opera?

    Space Adventure?

  12. I've read the #Traveller Core Rulebook from 2008 and found it to be very uninspiring and generic.

Though in fairness, the game is over 40 years old, and I guess everything it had that was new and unique for a space setting has also been copied by #StarsWithoutNumber #ScumAndVillany and #Coriolis

  13. Part 9, and now it's time for the pirates! Pirates and smugglers are the criminal faction in the game Starsector, a sort of space Mount and Blade.

(The AI generally prefers to generate women, so I will have to adjust the prompt to force it to generate some men)

If you like and want to use any of these images, it's all Creative Commons so have at it. See my pinned introduction post for more details
