One-credit cleared Star Parodier for PC Engine SuperCD, which is a lot less impressive than it sounds because Star Parodier is one of the easiest commercially released SHMUPs I've ever seen on a console of that age? Beat it with 29 lives in reserve. Didn't lose any lives at all until the final level, and I'm not that good at SHMUPs. It's wild. Doesn't make it a bad game, and I'm curious how it plays on higher difficulties but it's so offbeat for the era.
The game is very... "we can have a Parodius at home". It doesn't pull off quite the level of maniac energy as the Parodius games do, but it's got some fun stuff, with the highlight being a boss fight at the end of Stage 6 against a Bomberman in a Bomberman level where you have to move to dodge bombs following Bomberman rules.
The playable characters (a ship from Star Soldier, Bomberman, and a PC Engine) have some weapons that are truly wild; Bomberman's blue shot is a spread bomb shot where each shot explodes in all four directions and it just chews through the entire game by itself.
Soundtrack rules, by the way. :ac_glee:
